Busy busy day today.

Up bright and early for the morning Denny’s ritual..although today we committed a felony…we stole a Denny’s Mug…although our server had said she would turn a blind eye. Haha.

Went to the Tix4Tonight booth and bought Tix4Tomorrow for Rock Of Ages at the Venetian. Got some decent side stall seats for about $53 each…good times.

Headed down the strip and stood for twenty minutes waiting for the Bellagio fountains…only to realise they only started at 3pm..DOH! So we went into the Bellagio indoor gardens which were lovely.

20130507-000104.jpg

Walking back down the strip, ran into this crazy bastard…who I soon put in his place…

20130507-000146.jpg

After tea we went to watch the Treasure Island “Sirens of TI” show which was fun before heading down to Fremont Street.

I have been to Fremont before but it never seemed as Party as it did tonight. There were three different bands playing at different point, all of whom were awesome…and then the overhead show kicked in…now, normally, there’s been like a crazy patriotic video or something. The first one we saw tonight was a little rock show by Heart…but I don’t know enough of their songs to get excited…then THIS happened on the second show…

Yup, Bon Jovi rocking up the Fremont Street light show…brilliant.

Then it was time for a bit of Queen which was also cool.

20130507-000953.jpg

We then hopped back on the Deuce to catch the Mirage Volcano eruption at the Mirage before heading back to the Venetian.

Last full day tomorrow…sad but we still have plenty to take in!

Page 125/365 : Penn & Teller

Tonight was one of my favourite nights of the Honeymoon…we went to see Penn & Teller at The Rio Hotel.
I had seen their show 8 years ago but absolutely nothing was taken away from the spectacle of everything.

Penn is the voice of the duo, providing a verbal inside into their world of illusion, from how the art of sleight of hand is used to perfection through to his view on airport security and the bill of rights. He is even a dab hand on the Bass…!

Teller is the “do-er”. He is possibly the best slight of hand magician in the world and his craft and execution is brilliant.

There was a mix of old and new in the show. The new being a comedy “teapot” illusion, and a fun audience participation ring trick, through to the old coins from water trick ad the bullet finale which I have seen performed live twice and in TV a number of times and I still cannot figure out how it is done!

The awesome part about heir show is that afterwards they stick around to meet and greet everyone who wants to see them. You’d never see Copperfield doing that!

I would recommend this show to everyone! If you are in Vegas, go see it!

In other news, we went up to the Outlet Mall in the North today to buy a new bag to replace a broken suitcase! We also did a bit of gambling at the Rio before the P&T show playing the 1cent slots and getting the free/$1 beers. Nice!

Page 124/365 : Back to Vegas

Well it was time to say goodbye to Pismo Beach today and make the journey the whole 400 miles back to Las Vegas. As the wildfires were continuing down the 101, preventing us from taking the longer, but easier route back almost to LA then back to Vegas, we looked into another route. It was direct to Vegas but was a bit up and down and smaller roads….but it was actually a much calmer drive.

I mastered the Cruise Control so just kept it set to the speed limit and all was good. It was a much more relaxing journey without having to weave in and out like we were doing on the freeway.

We went to Peggy Sue’s Diner again which was awesome and made good time and got back to Vegas around 3 only to find out that we’d actually been charged for the “Upgrade” we’d been given on the car. Not happy. Will be kicking off about that soon.

Jumped in a taxi to the Venetian. We were given a luxury Suite which was lovely….the only problem being or Elle that it was 28 floors up and she was convinced the building was moving! Bless.

We watched our Elvis Wedding DVD in the hotel as there was a DVD player. It’s really funny.

We then went down and had an outside Gondola ride, just the two of us, around the canals at the front of the hotel. It was lovely. The girl who was taking us was a great singer too.

20130504-215217.jpg

We then went to Johnny Rockets for tea! Oh yes! Philly Cheese Steak! Yummmmmmmm!

Then we ha a little gamble in the casino. Elle won $30 on Deal Or No Deal but lost it on a Unicorn game that we were dragging out for free drinks. Haha. It was a fun night.

Page 123/365 : Starfish n BBQ

Took a stroll down on the beach the other way this time and went to check out all the rock pools. I always freak out with those though. Little wiggly worms were coming up from the wet sand after we were stepping on it and I didn’t like it. Then I was worried I was gonna stand on baby jellyfish. I didn’t like it! Basically….I didn’t like it.

We did see loads of starfish and little crabs though.

We went around the pool again but he to the fact that my back was red raw from yesterday’s sunbathing I went in the pool with a T-Shirt on. Freak!

Went to Marie Callender’s for lunch. I had a lovely Knife & Fork Chilli burger. Mmmmmm

Chilled out some more and watched War Of The Worlds before heading out to Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ….but when we got there it looked like a greasy spoon cafe and I wanted something a little classier, so we went next door to Brad’s Oak Pit BBQ and had a delightful BBQ feast there instead.

No drinking for me tonight. Got the trip back to Vegas tomorrow. There’s been massive Wildfires down the 101 so we’re going on a more cross-country route. Should be fun.

Page 122/365 : The Cracked Crab

It’s not often I dedicate an entire blog entry to one restaurant…but The Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach deserves it.

The concept is simple, Order Crab, Crack Crab, Eat Crab.

The restaurant often buys supplies from some of the Deadliest Catch boats but they didn’t have anything in from them tonight unfortunately.

We opted for a bucket for two which allows you to choose three main items in the bucket which comes out served with corn on the cob, potatoes and spicy sausage. The three items we chose were the Giant Alaskan Red Crab, the Opelio Snow Crab and Lobster tails. They made a mistake and gave us extra giant shrimp too.

We put on our bibs…

20130502-214509.jpg

And then this bucket got dumped on our table :

20130502-214625.jpg

And we were off. We had a load of tools to attack the shells and eat stuck into the meat. It was absolutely stunning and quite good fun cracking the crab up and peeling out the meat.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was brilliant and our server was really knowledgable about what we were ordering and made some good recommendations for us.

I would recommend this experience (because that is what it is) to absolutely anyone. It’s well worth the money and something I will never forget.

We had spent most of the day around the pool at the hotel following a walk along the beach. I burnt my back. Ouch!

Page 121/365 : Driving to Pismo

Another driving day today.

Had breakfast in the bedroom again before packing up and jumping in the car.

We headed up to Griffith Observatory first to see the Hollywood sign.

20130501-210748.jpg

Then we needed to fill up on Petrol….oh dear. This was going to be fun. Firstly we realised that the colours of the pumps are the opposite to England. So Black Pumps are Petrol here. Then we couldn’t get any gasoline out…because we hasn’t paid in advance. We had to ask someone to help us and must’ve looked like a right set of Divs!

Then we headed down to Venice Beach for some of the culture down there.

Then it was a three hour drive to Pismo Beach. The Seacrest Hotel was stunning. Check Elle’s Facebook for all the photos. We have a lovely ocean view room with a huge jacuzzi bath and there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us and rose petals scattered. Absolutely amazing.

Let the three day chill commence!

Page 120/365 : Universal Studios

Oops…caught up in all the fun I forgot to write this…so here goes…better late than never.

Up and about bright and early. Had breakfast delivered to the room…skillet breakfast….yummy!

Then it was time to head to Universal Studios…but we were going to be late…we aimed to jump on the 10am shuttle bus, which was all well and good, as we were on there at about ten to ten (Cowboy time [if ya don’t know what that is…ask]) and all set to go but then some American family rocked up at dead on Ten. Mum and Dad of the family had kids in tow and one in a pushchair. Everyone knew that the shuttle left at ten…Then the Dad decided that he needed to go back to his hotel room to get something. It was quarter past ten by the time we set off. I would’ve just left them!

Anyway, we got to Universal and the fun commenced. We headed straight in and went straight down to the Lower Lot and went straight to the Transformers 3D ride which was amazing. It’s the newest attraction and is very similar to the old Spider-Man ride. Then we went on the Mummy Returns Ride and the Jurassic Park water ride before seeing this :

20130501-204503.jpg

The actual Delorean used in Back To The Future. BEST PROP EVER!

Then we went up to the upper lot and did absolutely everything up there. All the rides, from Simpsons to Shrek and all the shows like the Stunt show and the Waterworld show as well as the awesome backlot tour, where we saw the biggest 3D experience in the world with King Kong 3D and saw things like the Back To The Future square and the Bates Motel.

We absolutely loved every second of it but were completely zonked by the time we got back to the hotel. It was well worth it though.

Oh and after the Dodgers lost miserably last night, they decided to go and win tonight! Typical!

Page 119/365 : Welcome to LA…meet the locals!

An interesting day!

Started normal. Woke up in Vegas, went for Denny’s for breakfast then back to the MGM to pack up and check out. Got a taxi to the Car Rental place. Got a complimentary upgrade to a larger car, which was nice. Picked up a Ford Fiesta for the five nights.

We stopped off by the Vegas Sign.

Driving took a short while to get used to. Everything was fine although I do tend to drift across to the right often and ride on the line…oops!

We stopped off at Peggy Sue’s Diner on the way which was a quality little diner. Proper old school.

20130429-233605.jpg

20130429-233631.jpg

20130429-233702.jpg

Then we headed onto LA. We arrived at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn and received a free upgrade to a suite which was nice. Elle’s negotiating skills nailed that one…literally…as she was comparing nails with the girl on check in!

20130429-234028.jpg

20130429-234047.jpg

20130429-234107.jpg

Then we headed to Dodger Stadium for the game. We got the Shuttle from our hotel to Universal City before jumping on the Metro Red Line through to Union Station then hopped onto the Dodger Express.

Bought a baseball cap and went into the stadium and devoured my first Dodger Dog.

20130429-234413.jpg

And then this woman happened…during the National Anthem….

Then unfortunately the game started…The Rockies banged out four runs in the opening innings and there was really no way back. The Dodgers pitching was shocking tonight. The game finished 12-2 to the Rockies.

But then the fun really began. The Metro ride back from Union Station to Universal….wow!

First of all a woman with mad hair got on clutching a pillow and some sheets. She then started talking and giggling to herself.

Then on got a guy who walked up and down with a sign with something written on it asking for money.

Then a guy in a wheelchair asking for money.

Then a guy who walked up and down, sat down, then stood up and started doing pull-ups on the bars in the train.

Then a group of guys who were signing to each other but eying up bags and rings.

Basically it was all a bit mental.

Page 118/365 : Crazy tired

Wow. Today turned out to be an odd one.

For up fairly late following last night’s drunkeness. We were both hanging considerably. Today we had very little planned. So off we went for Brunch at Denny’s before dropping into the Coca Cola Store and M&M World. I was so happy in the Coke store when they sold the “Around The World” Tray which we had to buy

20130429-053801.jpg

It’s a small shot of different drinks that Coca Cola make from around the world. I had tried them all before in Atlanta at Coke World there…so I knew what to expect with this…

20130429-053907.jpg

Yup, Beverly from Italy. So I handed the drink straight to Elle…and this was the face I got in return after she sipped it…

20130429-054000.jpg

Haha. Beverly claims another victim! Just for the record, for those of you who have never tried it…it’s awful. It’s like a bitter tonic water that just makes you want to wretch!!!

So after we’d visited the shops we came back to the MGM. It was the hottest day yet, which ain’t good with a stinker of a hangover…so we came up to the room with the plan of chilling or a bit then going down for some tea later on. We watched the first two episodes of The Deadliest Catch and then started watching Naked Castaway….and fell asleep…and we slept right through until 5:30am on Monday! Wow! Almost a 12-hour nap! We obviously needed it and I guess it’ll set us up well for Monday’s drive to LA and the Dodger math at Dodger Stadium in the evening.

We’ll be leaving Las Vegas for 5 nights…but we’ll be back!

Page 117/365 : Wedding #2

I must apologise in advance. I am writing this whilst nursing a hangover. But more about that later…

We started the day off normally with a trip to Denny’s for breakfast. I had this beast :

20130428-112409.jpg

Then we headed back to the MGM and lazed around the pool for a good few hours in an attempt to get a bit of colour into my pasty skin.

After the pool we went back to the room and a woman came to do Elle’s hair. When that was done it was time to be picked up to head to Graceland Wedding Chapel. It was soooooo funny. We had Elvis doing the ceremony and everything. We captured it all on DVD so people can see when we get back. We absolutely loved it.

20130428-113047.jpg

And then everything just kinda went wrong, but in a good way.

We went to Rainforest Cafe for tea which wasn’t amazing (although the BBQ chicken pizza was lovely) and then afterwards we decided to go to Hooters again. It’s cheap to drink there and Elle also wanted Peanut Butter Pie for dessert….so off we went and ended up getting the same waitress as the night before, Morgan. And we started on the Pitchers of Bud Light…and we didn’t stop apart from when we were having Skittle Vodka shots…and the pitchers just kept on flowing. We went through at least 9 that I can remember. A band were on who were awesome. And I made new friends through a game of beer pong!

20130428-113519.jpg

20130428-113553.jpg

It was an absolutely brilliant night. Morgan ended up drinking with us when she finished and I got to the point where I cannot actually remember getting back to the hotel. Apparently we demolished 20 wings and Lots A Tots!

Loved it!

In other news, Leeds United lost and had two men sent off an the Dodgers lost! Oops!
