Page 29/365 : 6.erm?

Oooooh so the big iOS6.1 update came today with virtually nothing of any use to anyone who is less than a level 99 geek. Boooooring! (I am level 64…must try harder)

Mum bought her wedding outfit and showed me it tonight. Looking good there mum (in a “you’ll look lovely at the wedding” way, not a hillbilly backwater “squeal like a pig” way!)

Woollin Mammoth, our Geocache trackable has finally been given a new home! Yay. He moved all the miles from Middleton Park…….all the way over to…..a park in Wortley! Wooooooohoooooooo! Safe travels young man, safe travels.

Page 28/365 : …aaaaand sleep!

Felt tiiiiired today following last night’s late night watching the Rumble.

Had to be up early-ish for work….well, it was the same time as every day but it felt so much earlier.

Put on two pounds at Slimming World. Guess I kinda deserved that after the curry and the ice cream at the weekend. Elle and I did win the Couple Of The Year though.

Look who arrived today :

Bought him using Coke Zone points I had been collecting. He’s ace and sounds great plugged into the iPad.

Need sleep now….

Page 27/365 : Let’s get ready to rumble!!!!!

It’s that time of year again. The one night of the year when everything changes. It’s Royal Rumble time.

I even had a tweet off Wade Barrett about it :

20130128-132033.jpg

The following contains spoilers :

The road to Wrestlemania begins as it always does at the Rumble. It’s the one night where the path is laid out to the grand-daddy of them all. In years past, having tickets to Mania 24, 25 and 27, it’s the perfect opportunity to see how the event you’re planning on spending a lot of money to see is going to pan out.

We were treated to a pre-show match where Antonio Cesaro beat The Miz to retain the US Title…The Miz did almost break his leg mid-match though…then the show began and the texting between myself, Lawlor & Crooksy began…Crooksy not as often as myself and Lawlor mind you, but still….

Elle went to sleep.

First match up was the Last Man Standing match for the World Heavyweight Title. Alberto Del Rio vs Big Show and inevitably, there was some carnage. The highlight of the match was when Show dragged Del Rio up onto part of the staging and slammed him through a table. Del Rio did pick up the win however to retain.

Team Hell No vs Team Rhodes Scholars were next up. I had predicted a split in the Hell No camp…but it never happened and they picked up a win to retain.

Next up, to the surprise of many was the Rumble match. Many, including myself believe that the Rumble match should always be the main event. It would be like having the Elimination Chamber event and sticking a Divas match at the top spot!

The main surprises in the Rumble match were the returns of Chris Jericho, Golddust, The Godfather, Rey, Mysterio and Sin Cara. Jericho came back in at Number 2 and it was great to see him back.

20130128-125017.jpg

In the end it came down to John Cena and Ryback but Cena picked up the win, catapulting him to the main event of Wrestlemania…cue obligatory pointing at and posing with the WM29 sign…!

20130128-125150.jpg

And then came the main event.

Elle woke up.

The Rock vs Champion Punk. The match was relatively poor for a main event and after Punk won following a Shield interference, Vince was about to strip Punk of the title and Rock said no, then the match restarted and Rock won! Joy!

Thought the event on a whole was nothing more than a 6/10.

In other news…Leeds beat Tottenham to progress to the 5th round of the FA cup! It was a great game at Elland Road despite getting stuck in the car park for ages after. Two great goals from Varney and McCormack won the game. Final score was 2-1. The real star of the game for me though was Sam Byram who put in a top notch effort to keep Bale at bay.

We’ve now got a trip to Man City in the offering! Should be fun!

Realised that the tickets we booked for The Full Monty on May 18th is the same night as the Eurovision Song Contest….that’ll be getting cancelled then! Checked on the Leeds Grand website and you can exchange for other performances so that’s OK. Phew! Can’t miss the Eurovision.

Page 26/365 : Blood Brothers

Had a good sleep in this morning after staying up late watching the neighbours build snowmen at 1am!

The snow was hugely thick this morning. We watched Pitch Perfect on the iPad ( see review ) in bed before getting up and heading out into the winter wonderland that was Beeston.

Elle needed to sort her Passport out but it wouldn’t be accepted on the Check n Send because her appearance had changed somewhat. Looks like we’ll have to sort next week.

Did the weekly shop before catching up on some more Prison Break…then it was time to head out.

Nipped in to see Elle’s Dad to drop in his birthday present on the way to Sheffield. We went to Aagrah for a curry before heading to the Lyceum Theatre to see Blood Brothers. What a fantastic show. We had never seen it before so went into it not actually knowing much about it.

Marti Pellow played the Narrator, but unfortunately sometimes it was really difficult to make out what he was singing, which kinda took away a little bit of the theatrics of it all. It was the only problem though.

Maureen Nolan played Mrs Johnstone brilliantly and was spot on. The guys playing the two brothers were fantastic too.

If you haven’t seen the show, go check it out. It’s brilliant. The synopsis is simple, two brothers, twins, are sent their separate ways by a broke mother who cannot afford another two additions to her family. One boy is brought up in amongst a rich family and another in his original home, struggling to make ends meet. As their lives entwine and cross numerous times, can they live a normal life or will it only lead to tragic circumstances.

Film review : Pitch Perfect

20130126-113340.jpg

A few years ago, a TV show entered our lives that would change the world. That show was Glee, with it’s funky geekdom of song and quirkiness, Glee inspired tonnes of people that show choir is cool again.

The Glee influence had brought back an era of musical TV and film which uses the fun pop element and twists it classically and creates a whole new genre. And it’s into this genre that Pitch Perfect sits.

Part Romance and part Gleekdom, Pitch Perfect takes the age old story of new girl at school (Anna Kendrick) falling for cute guy with aspirations (Skylar Astin) and through various trials and tribulations (being on opposite singing teams in this case) brings them closer together.

The story is a simple one but used well in a blend of the touching Teenage get-together movie style we are so used to seeing and this new found love for all things musical-mash-up.

Kendrick’s character joins the Bellas, a down-on-their-luck all female acapella show choir who desperately need to audition for newbies as the previous ones have graduated. Naturally along comes a whole host of social misfits including a whispering girl and Fat Amy played by Rebel Wilson. And it’s here that the film finds its comedic outlet, mainly through plenty of fat jokes.

The problem with this film was that unfortunately, most of the actual funny bits were in the trailer, so if you have seen that, then you’re not going to be treated to much more comedy.

The songs and the set pieces, such as the riff-off are inspired and work really well with a really good mix of tunes that you will recognise instantly.

In summary, a fine film with some nice performances, but it did just feel like an extended episode of Glee.

Page 25/365 : Big Bro, Swim again & Snow’s back!

Gotta love payday! Felt like a loooooooonnnnnnngggggg January.

Had a mega Celebrity Big Brother catchup, watching about 5 episodes back to back, including the finale. One thing to come out of this is that Rylan is a really decent bloke who stands up for what is right in the house. Spencer and Heidi are complete pricks who need to get a proper grip on reality. They have some moments when they seem genuinely nice and then they flip into arsehole-mode. Razor Ruddock has been brilliant too. Very genuine and funny.

It was a very deserves win for Rylan in the end.

Went to the John Charles Centre for a swim tonight. It was the 50m setup and did a mile in 45 minutes which was a minute quicker than last time so that’s encouraging. Need to really keep up with it.

There was naff all snow after swimming, we’d had a little flurry so I thought that was it. As we were say watching TV, Lawlor text saying he had a shitload of snow, and we said we hardly had any….and then we opened the door…and we had around 6inches at least! It’s still falling like crazy. Thi was the view around 9pm :

20130125-221100.jpg

Just feel a little bad because we haven’t been panic buying at the shops…what will we do??? How will we survive???

We Skype’d Lawlor for a bit until he had to “Do a Rod Hull” and go clear snow from the Sky Dish to get it working again.

Really looking forward to this weekend. Tomorrow night we are going to see Blood Brothers in Sheffield (if we don’t get snowed in that is!!!) and on Sunday it’s the Leeds vs Spurs game down at Elland Road. Really looking forward to that too, although I do think we will be paggered.

The latest Leeds United news in the last day or so has been the big Luciano Becchio news. He handed his transfer request in after apparently having his head turned by a couple of foreign clubs who have made an approach for him. Leeds have turned down the offers but he is looking to earn more money and not the kind of money Leeds are willing to offer him unfortunately. These things happen in football (especially at Leeds) and I think the writing is definitely on the wall for Becchio’s imminent departure. Personally I would love him to stay. He seems to love Leeds and playing for us, but at the end of the day if you were in a job and could go somewhere else for double the money to do the same job…you would.

Apparently we’re meant to be getting Gradel back too…but we will see that when it happens….no doubt we’ll pay more than we sold him for…it’s the Leeds United way!

As I have been typing this, on and off or a few hours, the snow has really piled up outside… :

Page 24/365 : Poorly, PB & J.J.

Elle wasn’t feeling too well today, being up during the the night so she stayed off work.

Watches right up to the end of Season 2 of Prison Break.

Breaking news today that J.J.Abrams is set to direct the new Star Wars film. Not sure what to make of that. He certainly has the background to do it but am I comfortable with the same guy directing Star Trek and Star Wars? He is certainly taking a lot on, shouldering the responsibility of the next film in what can only be described as Cinema’s biggest franchise.

Had a cracking combination tea tonight. Batchelors Macaroni Cheese, mixed with fried bacon, onion and mushroom. It was lovely!

Only got about 10 syns per day left now until the end of Sunday. Gonna have to be careful!

Page 23/365 : Catchup & payouts

Had a huge TV catchup this evening, ploughing through all the episodes of Celebrity Big Brother we had sat on the planner.

Elle paid a tonne of stuff off on the wedding today, paying the final bills on plenty of things me depleting the wedding budget to almost nothing again! At least it’s more stuff paid off now anyway.

Last of the Stag Do monies were paid off today so just waiting now for all the details of everything to come through. Looking forward to allocating rooms for everyone and in 4 weeks it’ll all be happening. I am going to go on record now as saying that its likely my Blog may just run a little late over those days…!

Three t-shirts arrived today, the ones I had had to pay the import charge for. The Tuxedo one looks ace, the Zombie one is funny, and the Mario one is great. Gotta save the Tuxedo one hnt the Elvis wedding in Vegas on 27th April.

Page 22/365 : Back to normal

A quiet one today following the fun exploits of yesterday.

Everyone was back into work so we had a full compliment of staff and loads of stories about what we all got up to on our official snow day.

Appysnap is back…well, kinda. Got an email late last night and a follow up early this morning to say I was on the initial testing team. This is great news. I will get chance to play with Appysnap before most other people and see how it works and provide feedback.

For anyone that doesn’t know, Appysnap was literally a life changer in the way that it actually took over my life. In its first incarnation, the game was simple, you were sent “missions” and had to take a photo of whatever it asked, so we had endless amounts of fun snapping shots of Custard Pie faces, faces made out of food, space rockets built from household items etc etc. The fun value was massive and the potential to win real prizes was great too but it was flawed in the way it worked in the sense that if you missed just one mission, you knew that you had Zero chance of winning that month.

The new Appysnap is almost ready and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I won’t be able to tell you too much in the initial stages, but I will be able to tell you just how awesome it is when I get my grubby little mitts on it, hopefully this weekend!

Watched Raw tonight too. It was good fun but most of it was fast-forwarded. Looking forward to staying up until 4am on Sunday night/Monday morning for the Royal Rumble!!!

Page 21/365 : Snow Day!

Well the blog is going well. 21 days in and I am still writing this crap. Will have to start looking at the stats to see if anyone is actually reading it or whether its all just for my own pleasure.

If you’re reading, please feel free to comment as its nice to have some feedback. Especially Crooksy who practically begged me to update this tonight….!

The snow really hit overnight. Well, it did in some places. Beeston wasn’t that bad at the start of the day. Dropped Elle off at work then made it up to Birstall fine…only to find they had been hit with about a foot of the white stuff! The roads were insane up there.

Parked outside the office on the main road as the car park was insane. When I got in there was only two others in the office. No-one turned up in my department because they couldn’t get in. Trevor phoned me and told me to get myself off home but I stayed to send an invoicing run and left at 11.

Went to Louise’s to pick up her Kindle that she’s lending me as well as using her UV light to test which of the two pairs of glasses I have were the Transitions ones.

Got a few hours on LA Noire in on the Xbox, making it into Disk 2.

Slimming World tonight went well. Lost another 5lb this week. Really pleased with that and it just goes to show that all the weight I put on in the run up to Christmas is now coming off the right way now.

12 weeks worth of weigh ins until the wedding now and hoping for around another two stone. Would be nice…only the Stag Do in the middle to throw it off methinks.

Messing around at Weigh In tonight and I did this that I sent to Daniel Bryan on Twitter…WWE fans will understand…
