Page 136/365 : Share a Coke with…erm…

Today something unprecedented happened. I half fancied a bottle of Diet Coke, but I didn’t get one even though I had the chance to. The reason? The new “Share A Coke With…” promotion that Coca Cola are doing.

The promotion is simple, 150 popular names have been selected and put into bottles and cans of Diet Coke, Coke and Coke Zero etc. The full list of names that they have used can be found here

At first, I thought the promotion was a quality idea. I mean who wouldn’t want a bottle of Coke with their name on it? It’s fun and its personal. I even found one with “Dave” on …

20130516-223536.jpg

But then today I realised something…all the bottles in Tesco today had other names on them. There was Will, Louise, Craig etc…but no Dave. And it was at this point that I realised I didn’t want to drink another bottle with a random name on it. So I didn’t buy a bottle…and anyone who knows me will tell you I love the Diet Coke.

Coke Zone points in the last have gotten me a pair of Coca Cola headphones, free football tickets, Christmas stocking etc, but even that promotion is set to end in October. I own a pair of Coca Cola lounge pants and once spent over $120 in the Merchandise store at Coca Cola World in Atlanta.

But now I don’t want to drink a coke with someone else’s name on it?

Am I insane, or had anyone else had similar thoughts?

On the flip side, if there were a constant supply of “Dave” bottles, I wouldn’t have an issue. I just refuse to drink from a bottle with Georgina or Naomi’s name emblazoned across it, as if that bottle was meant only for them.

Hopefully the “Share A Coke With” promotion won’t last too long…! I’m having to stick to 2litre bottles instead.

In other news, watched the Raising Hope finale and Big Fat Liar.

Page 135/365 : Tea-Party

Pretty standard working day. Almost fully up-to-date now with everything and hopefully should be back on even ground tomorrow.

The Eurovision Sweepstake ain’t going too well at work. Only about 9/26 sold so far for the final. Gonna have to give everyone a good nudge in the next day or so.

Finally sorted out the Football Predictor and announced Ciaran as the winner. Looking to do one next season too. Just need to figure out if we need to tweak anything in the points to make it better and allow for more points to be obtained.

Amy & Tom came over for tea. Chilli was on the menu. Good times. Had a good natter and watched the Uefa Cup Final which Chelsea nicked in the last minute…can you tell I am missing the Leeds United matches already?

Elle looking to sort out a tent for our now-booked Camping trip. Hopefully it’ll be. Big one. Not too keen on enclosed spaces…

Watched the Bar Mitzvah The Musical episode of Raising Hope tonight too. Very funny indeed.

Page 134/365 : Eurovision Song Contest – Semi Final #1

And so it’s that time of year again. Eurovision Song Contest time. Bonnie Tyler will be representing us this year, seen here looking like the Bride Of Chucky hanging out in a Cabin somewhere in the Cotswolds…

Image

So how do the first 16 measure up? Here’s my thoughts as I watched them…

1 – Austria – The song was called Shine, and apart from a woman looking more nervous than an opening round X Factor contestant, the song was very much non-descript.

2 – Estonia – Birgit singing a song which translates as New Beginning. She wore a big floaty dress and sang a forgettable ballad.

3 – Slovenia – Hannah with “Straight Into Love”. Some odd men dancing dressed as Casey Jones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles won’t rescue Slovenia’s effort (although Hannah’s tight pants might). Its very dance-y, which I expect will be the flavour of this year’s competition after last year’s winner…

4 – Croatia – Klapa singing a song which translates as “Misery”. It was very traditional and a bit of a mis-match of random blokes crooning. I can’t see it getting anywhere.

5 – Denmark – Emmelie de Forest singing “Only Teardrops” – This is the favourite to win the entire the competition. Some penny whistles and a lead singer who looked very much like Home & Away actress and Borat-lover Isla Fisher. I am going out on a limb right here, right now after only hearing 5 songs in the Semi-Final #1 to say that THIS WILL WIN…and don’t forget that being Denmark they will have a lot of friends giving them the high marks anyway, without everyone else scoring them high.

6 – Russia – Dina Garipova and “What If”. She won the Russian version of The Voice…but lets face it, absolutely ANYTHING had to be better than those Russian grannies last year…! Dina was out on the stage dressed very old fashioned, but the song was very much a “Lets all love each other” message which fits in with the competition this year and the “We Are One” slogan. It has a good chance of getting to the final and finishing top ten.

7 – Ukraine – Zlata Ognevich and “Gravity” – very strangely Zlata was carried onto the stage by a giant man and put onto a rock. Not quite sure what the meaning about that was. It was all very Danni Minogue. Not sure whether it will actually make it past this Semi-Final.

8 – The Netherlands – Anouk singing “Birds” – The Netherlands have an atrocious record at progressing to the Final…Anouk really isn’t doing much to help their cause with this either. It was like she was going for a mix between a haunting voice and…erm…Anastasia…but she hit neither.

9 – Montenegro – Who See singing a song called “Igranka” – they were dressed in Astronaut outfits and rapping in French whilst surrounded by strobe lights, before a cyborg-looking woman emerged from the floor and the astronauts pretended to walk in zero gravity…erm…yeah…that’s about it really.

10 – Lithuania – Andrius Pojavis and “Something” – A song which kinda felt like it needed the lead singer to move more than he did but he just stayed behind the micriphone and waved his arms expressively a lot. Actually not a bad song (in terms of Eurovision) but not sure it’ll make it to the final.

11 – Belarus – Alyona Lanskaya singing “Solayah” – she emerged from a huge disco glitter ball wearing what looked to be fragments of the said glitter ball. Actually quite a catchy song. Reminded me a lot of “Kiss Kiss” by Holly Valance. Could definitely see this hitting a top-ten spot.

12 – Moldova – Aliona Moon and “O Mie” – In a switcheroo, Aliona is backed by Pasha Parfeny, who was last year’s entry backed by…Aliona Moon! Aliona certainly sported a mad wave-like hairdo. Unfortunately the song is just a bit non-descript and seems to be lacking a certain punch. It tends to build up as if it’s about to go somewhere then never does, even if she did rise up into the hair, turning her dress into a Volcano (you have to see it to believe it)

13 – Ireland – Ryan Dolan singing “Only Love Survives” – Apparently the song has already been a hit in Sweden, which always helps their cause! Some mad topless drumming kicked the song off but it just didn’t come across as an Irish entry, more like a Greek Europop tune. But it did break into a bit of a bouncy dance number…clearly Ireland are trying to climb onto the success of Euphoriaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa….will it work? I don’t think so…mid-table finalist no-doubt.

14 – Cyprus – Despina Olympiou singing “An Me Thimasi” – Wow…erm…Basically Despina looked like Caroline Flack wearing a seethrough dress…I bet that kid from One Direction just spat out his cocoa! Quite a boring track and cannot see it making the final, which won’t be a big worry to Cyprus really as they probably couldn’t afford to host the competition next year…

15 – Belgium – Roberto Bellarosa singing “Love Kills”. He won The Voice in Belgium (is that the future of our version of The Voice?). Some very strange dancing behind Roberto distracted from his singing a little. Two random women not really adding anything to the performance whatsoever. Might make top ten but won’t be a contender for the win.

16 – Serbia – Moje 3 singing “Ljubav Je Svuda” – Translated as “Love Is Everywhere”. An all-girl group wearing the oddest doll-like costumes and acting out a very odd scene with each other. Not quite sure where Serbia were aiming for with this…Will probably make the final though.

So, that’s the first 16 Semi-Finalists…and the ten making it through to the final are:

Moldova, Lithuania, Ireland, Estonia, Belarus, Denmark, Russia, Belgium, Ukraine & The Netherlands

Well…The Netherlands are in…finally…well played.

Tune in on Thursday for the second Semi-Final…and I am still convinced Denmark will win…The odds ain’t even worth it they’re that short.

Page 133/365 : Back To Work

First day back at work since breaking up on April 19th (Page 109/365 if anyone cares) and I was all set for it to be a complete car crash.

Usually when you leave someone in charge of your work whilst you’re away, everything goes tits up, but amazingly all went well. I just had 159 emails to go through but getting my spreadsheets brought fully up to date was the main issue of the day and I made good progress.

It was actually nice to be back in the office. I work with a good bunch of people so its all quite fun when it can be.

Also back to Slimming World tonight. Since the last weigh in the week before the wedding, I have managed to only put on 5lb which is pretty good considering the wedding and the honeymoon. I think the walking must’ve really helped me out. Elle put 11lb on but she’ll shift that back off in a week or so no worries.

Didn’t feel too tired to be honest today…no doubt it’ll catch up in a day or so. Haha.

Completed the first game in that three-pack I bought yesterday. I had been giving it some hammer though.

Caught a couple of episodes of Corrie. We’re still way behind.

Watched a couple of episodes of “Raising Hope” and the entire cast of “My Name Is Earl” turned up in it. It was very funny.

Also huge congratulations today to Euan who became an Uncle for the fourth time.

Elle and I are looking at maybe going camping somewhere in the Bank Holiday weekend coming up. Not shrew where yet, but we shall see.

Sleepiness is coming now….night night…….zzzzzzzzz…..zzzzzz…..zzzzz

Page 132/365 : Recuperation

Luckily my back wasn’t as bad as it has been today. Took it easy on it though as it was still niggling a little bit and I really didn’t want to aggravate it any more. Hate back pain!

Had a mega mega lazy day today because of it. Caught up on American Idol and watched to the end of Season 4 o CSI. Also caught a couple of episodes of Raising Hope.

Also bought a cool little hidden item mystery game from Morrisons. It had three games in it. They’re always good fun.

Got the joys of going back to work tomorrow. It could be an interesting one. Someone has been doing my work whilst I have been off…which is always hilariously fun to go back to and clean up all the mess. Guess we’ll just have to see how bad it is tomorrow. Think I might leave my Out Of Office on for another couple of days until I catch up.

Also need to organise the work Eurovision Song Contest Sweepstake. Because I ain’t gonna have enough time to do the full one with the Semi-Finals being on Tuesday and Thursday, I’m just gonna have to sell the 25 finalist places at £2 a go and sort out the prize money from the £50. Usually do first, second and Last on the Eurovision because its always funny having the United Kingdom and being in with a shot of the booby prize!

Having trouble sleeping. Uh-oh! Guess the Honeymoon is still playing havoc. It’s now 1:15am an I am WIDE awake. Need to get to sleep soon otherwise I will be like a Zombie tomorrow…Someone might have to “Double-Tap” me (10 points for the movie reference)

Page 131/365 : Paaaaiiiiiin!

Back in agony today. Doing my head in.

Used one of Elle’s heated microwave slippers on my back. It eased it somewhat but I kept getting myself in positions I couldn’t get myself out of…nightmare.

Because of the back, we did very little today. Caught up on loads of TV. Almost to the end of season 4 of CSI now, which is good to be back into.

Doctor Who was a cracker tonight…will be interesting to see where they go with next week’s finale in the lead up to the 50th anniversary special.

Page 130/365 : Back…Ouch, MOT…fine!

Woke up in the middle of the night with an excruciating pain in the bottom of my back…it was still there this morning and carried on through the entire day. Not good! It was where it was a few years ago when it all went wrong and I was off work for ages…hopefully it’ll sort itself out. Until then, the Diclofenac is my best friend again!

Managed to be up and about enough to take the car to Kwik Fit for the MOT. It was the first one since I bought it in October. Back then I had been having problems since I bought it when the car was leaking water into the Spark Plugs. That all got resolved but the Engine Management light is still on…luckily it wasn’t something that fails an MOT. I was still weary about whether it would pass…it failed…but only on a clip that had broken which he fixed in about ten seconds and the fact I had something dangling from the rear view mirror. Only had to pay the £35 MOT fee…get in!

Caught up on plenty of TV tonight. Watched Britain’s Got Talent, Corrie, CSI etc.

Also, Challenge TV have stared showing Fun House and Knightmare from Day 1! Amazing! Got those two bad boys on Series Link…gotta love Pat Sharp’s hair and the thicko’s on Knightmare.

Back on the diet after putting on 11lb (which I was quite pleased with to be honest). Salad for dinner today and a Spag Bol. Need to get back into the swing of it properly again.

Louise Facetime’d us from Turkey…Megan was jumping in and out of the pool.

Page 129/365 : Back Home & A Royal Letter

Well that’s it. We landed about half an hour behind schedule which wasn’t too bad really after a bit of a wait in Vegas after they wouldn’t let the pilot onto the runway for 45 minutes.

Picked up the baggage and found the phone to ring Bewleys who sent a shuttle straight out. Went back to the Bewleys Hotel and picked up the car. What a fantastic service they provided. Highly recommend using them in the future.

One thing I did notice on the way home….how bad our roads are for driving on! The Americans have it absolutely nailed on. I think the fact that over there, Undertaking is legal makes everything easier because you can just stick in one lane if you want and not worry about anything. Over there, they also have a “slow vehicle only” lane which makes sense when you’re on the motorways.

Stopped off for a Burger King (to wean ourselves off slowly) but their boiler was broken so ended up getting a Greggs.

Got home and amongst the post I had a letter from the Queen (well her Lasy In Waiting)! Back on 18th March I wrote a letter to Buckingham Palace after “Our Queen” the documentary had been on (see Blog post by clicking here) and I had this letter back from the Palace!

20130510-133332.jpg

So that’s two letters from Buckingham Palace, which is nice.

Was pleased to see that the Sky+ wasn’t full. Amazing. And some things we’d actually already managed to watch either on the Mini-Moon or on the Honeymoon itself online. Good times.

Got the car MOT tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Page 128/365 : Hometime

Time to come home 😦

Headed to Denny’s for the last time for breakfast before it was time to go.

Jumped on the shuttle bus from the Venetian to the Airport.

Ended up being 7kilo over at the airport on the baggage so dumped a load of cheap clothes…see you back in England tomorrow…

Page 127/365 : Rock Of Ages

Today we went to see Rock Of Ages at the Venetian…but first…

…got up and had a trip to Denny’s for breakfast as had become the norm. No stolen mugs today (only because it wasn’t a branded one that Elle was given…I think they’re onto her…) and after we’d eaten we jumped on the Deuce up to the Bonanza Gift Shop…Wow! Love it! It was HUGE!

20130507-234116.jpg

Hopped back on the Deuce to Circus Circus and went into the Midway there and played on the games but won nowt!

Then we went around the Mirage and checked out the gardens there…and then it started raining! Yup…rain! Nothing major though.

We got ready and went to “I ❤ Burgers” for tea. Check out this BBQ Burger Bad Boy!

20130507-234736.jpg

Then it was time for Rock Of Ages. We had a quick drink in the Bourbon Room (although the service was SHIT!) before going into the show.

20130507-234850.jpg

20130507-234903.jpg

And what a show it was. I’ve only seen the film so it was good to see the original show. The comedy in it was absolutely brilliant and the songs were performed amazingly. The show differs in a few places to the film, for example the Catherine Zeta Jone character is completely different but everything is there and it all comes together brilliantly. I can honestly say it is the best thing I have EVER seen on Stage. Absolutely loves it from start to finish.

Then we went for a bit of a gamble but absolutely nothing was going in for us so we called it a day.

Home tomorrow. BOO!
