Well…it happened. The two players on Real Radio this morning didn’t make it, despite the last one putting up one hell of a fight.

So tomorrow morning I will be joining Dixie & Gayle in the Real Radio Yorkshire studios from 7am for a bit of a chat before playing the Final of Fact Or Fiction against four other contestants from across the other Real Radio regions…and the winner will win £50,000!

There’s been a bit of backlash with regards to people thinking I was cheating or it’s a fix. This is an interview I did this morning with Dixie and Gayle. Everything is legitimate and above board.

So fingers crossed everyone and I hope you are all listening either on the radio (106-108fm), on the Real Radio Yorkshire App, or through the website at http://www.realradioyorkshire.co.uk

And remember…I need all the support in the world (but mostly Yorkshire) so remember #GoDave

Well…well…well…!

As you know, as of Monday I was tied in the lead with someone else on Real Radio’s £50k Friday Fact Or Fiction competition. Yesterday someone only got 5…but this morning I was getting ready for listening. To the competition and I just thought I would phone up…and the it started to ring, then amazingly, I got picked again. Madness.

And I stepped up to the plate…and scored 14 out of the 15 I answered.

This now means I am in the lead on my own…so, unless one of the two players tomorrow beats 14…I will win another £500 and be in the Grand Final on Friday. There’s a game at 7:15am and 8:15am tomorrow. Everything is crossed now…fingers, thumbs, toes, legs and arms…anything can happen now…!

Well the guy who came on Real Radio this morning to play Fact or Fiction only got 5…so I am still in the running for the final. Just three more players between me and a tiebreaker. Fingers crossed again!

Picked Derek up tonight. He’s been at his grandma’s for way too long. He just wanted to play all night which was cute.

Caught up on Big Brother and WWE Raw. Not so sure about the look of the cover for the new game with The Rock on it. The franchise has been taken over by another company…time will tell if its any good or not.

Watched a cool video online of a group who ran the Zombie Run wearing a head camera. This was the kind of mental we had to endure :

Page 175/365 : In It To Win It…again!

Woke up early doors this morning and headed into work early and got prepared. Got two of the office phones together and my mobile and got Real Radio on the computer. When the qualifying question came on, I started a frantic series of re-dials. And the phone rang through.

This, of course is the £50k Friday quiz where you have to answer Fact Or Fiction to statements read out. In the first week of the competition, I got the high score of 11 and won the £500. But in the second week, I was beaten by someone with 13.

I got the qualifier right…and then got picked…again. Dixie was shocked. There’s been a few people getting second shots recently.

So the questions started. As I was being asked them, I marked how many I answered and it was 16! But I got three wrong so only scored 13. I should’ve got 14 but I messed up on a Bronte Sister question I really should’ve got. But 13 was my score so here’s the situation :

a) If no-one tops a score of 13 on Tuesday, Wednesday or the two games on Thursday, I will win another £500.

b) If that happens, I will then have to have a tie-breaker agains the woman who won Week 2 with 13.

c) The winner of that tie-break will be in the studio on Friday morning playing for £50k

d) If someone beats 13 in the next four attempts, I am out!

e) If someone scores dead on 13, I would potentially have to get through TWO tiebreaker questions to get to the final.

I am still kicking myself over getting the Bronte question wrong.

Took a turn for the worse in the afternoon. Felt really ill. My inflamed chest thing was back and I kept feeling really hot and going dizzy. Got another prescription for my Diclofenac from the docs.

Took it easy and had plenty of rest and chilled out. Was really odd.

Also…who likes the new banner? Credit to our Laura for making it up for me.

Up and about early this morning…much earlier than I actually wanted to be after only getting in at about half past 1 this morning. My legs were aching like a right bitch…which was to be expected after actually using muscles in my legs that haven’t been used in years!…oh and in case you didn’t know, I didn’t get infected on the Zombie run…so if a real Zombie apocalypse hits…stick with me…I’ll use you as my Human shield.

Dad picked me up and we went down to Clevedon, near Bristol to go see my Grandma. She’s in a home down there, close to my Aunt Judy and cousin Jonathan. I hadn’t seen Grandma since November 2005 when I was down in Bristol filming Deal Or No Deal.

It was good to see her. She was pleased to see us and it was nice to chat and spend a few hours all together.

Long day though…but luckily my Dad was driving…I don’t think my legs would have held up to it all…that’s the price of being a Zombie Survivor (not sure if I have mentioned it or not…)

Just chilling at home now, watching the Dodgers game…which means they will no-doubt lose as they have done in every game I have watched this season……!

Film Review – World War Z

Watched film #1,221 from icheckmovies.com

Prior to running Manchester’s 2.8 Hours Later Zombie Run Game yesterday (Saturday – Click here to read about it) we decided to get into the Zombie mood by going to see the brand new World War Z.

Now…here’s my first question…is it World War “Zee” or “Zed”? Being English, we should really say “Zed” but I just cannot bring myself to say it…it’s clearly a play upon World War 3…so for me, it will stay that way.

And to the film…its the age-old Zombie tale. Someone somewhere has been infected, but that has led to the entire world being plunged into a Zombie Apocalypse. The fast-running brain-eating nutters are killing and breeding at a massive pace. Brad Pitt plays the lead, taking himself on a one-man mission to figure out what the hell is going on. His journey takes him to the middle east where he learns the virus started. There is a massive invasion there which is pretty impressive, and CG at it’s finest.

But the whole entire film just lacks something…or maybe it’s a case of having too much of something. My problem with this film is that the budget is just too massively big. Zombies work better when the production is scaled down. The film is just too big.

Also, the action seems to leap around too much. One minute we’re in one place, the next, Pitt’s somewhere overseas. Surely if something as massively mental as a full-world Apocalypse hits, then we wouldn’t have commercial air flights taking place…which also lends itself to one of the silliest scenes in the film. Forget your Snakes On A Plane…this is Zombies on a plane…which again is an insane concept…as during the film it’s stated that it only takes 8 seconds to become infected…so how did someone who was infected manage to get through check-in, board a plane, wait for it to taxi and take-off before turning and causing carnage?

“That’s it! I have had it with these motherfucking Zombies on this Motherfucking plane!” Ah, Samuel L Jackson would have been awesomely placed in this.

Overall, the film offered so much in terms of hype, but it falls well short in a Genre dominated by lower-budget, smaller-based action.

Give me Shaun Of The Dead, Zombieland, Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead etc etc any day over this…

Page 173/365 : 2.8 Hours Later Zombie Run

What an absolutely thrilling and thoroughly great experience we had this evening. We were taking part in the 2.8 Hours Later Zombie Run in Manchester. It was the fourth year of the run, and ever since the first one, I have wanted to do it, but only now have we finally got around to it.

The game is simple, move from area to area, avoiding Zombies. If they touch you, you’re infected.

20130622-234643.jpg

We had six in our group and after being “checked for infection” we were off. The starting point was the 17th floor of a multi-storey car park. We first met with an officer who said we needed to get to the medical centre to get our certificate. So down the 17 flights of stairs we went and out into the city. We found where we were going on the map and found the medical centre. When there a doctor told us we couldn’t stay there but there was a Salvation Army posting nearby. As we were leaving, a sheet was pulled back and a zombie was flailing his arms from a tied up bed. We made it out fine.

Then we found the Salvation Army posting. The police (pretend ones) were warning us not to get involved but as the Salvation Army man gave us the next co-ordinates, people who had looked like tramps turned out to be Zombies, lunging for us…and this is where we went wrong. David, Lee and I all went down the alleyway we were meant to go down. Yvonne, Fay and Sam legged it another way.

We eventually met up again and headed towards a “safe zone”. When we got there however, there was a huge courtyard filled with Zombies. And the fun began. We had to run around ad through the courtyard without being touched. We all managed to make it except Fay. She was caught. The Zombies just touch you then mark your hand with an invisible mark.

We made it into the safe zone were a woman was tending to her daughter who had obviously been infected. Ah was covered in blood. The woman too us that we needed to get to her car and gave us the co-ordinates. The daughter then started moving towards us so we legged it out of the door but straight back into the courtyard. Here we went wrong and instead of going left, as we had been told, we ended up back across the courtyard, but we out ourselves right.

Then we found the car…it was in some tunnels that were very dark. A woman was there but told us all the petrol had already been siphoned and to get out. We went down a long dark corridor with no incident…but at the end as we turned left there were loads of Zombies chasing people. We all legged it. Sam was caught.

Now we found another safe zone. A man there had two doors. He opened them and we went in but we were trapped in cages with Zombies all around us. Eventually one of them moves and we could get out but we had quite a run to get through the street that was littered with Zombies.

Then it was up past Strangeways prison and into a building (after dodging more Zombies). Here we met a man who had escaped from prison but had kidnapped a man.

We got the next co-ordinates and had to go back out on the street. One zombie was standing really close to the door. Luckily I got past him without getting caught but Yvonne copped it. We then had to get past this guy, who we dubbed Justin Lee Collins :

We then made our way past and through more Zombies…at this point I was thinking it was amazing I hadn’t been caught…but my left calf was starting to pull. We turned onto a street that was all up hill. It was daunting as there were Zombies all up it. I made it past the first two fine, but someone had to go back into the danger zone to pick up some pills. We moved on and more Zombies chased but I was still fine.

Then we got to the last bit and we could take either of two turnings. I went down the second one. There were a few Zombies down there but at the end was the Asylum. Amazingly, I didn’t get caught again and I got back to the Asylum without being infected at all. Only David and I managed to do it without getting caught.

Anyone who was infected could have Zombie makeup put on and we had a group photo which was funny.

Didn’t stay to the Disco too long as we needed to head back for coaches.

What an absolutely fantastic event. This is something I will be 100% doing again!

Page 172/365 : Weekend begins

Elle headed off to Skegness on Emma’s hen do today. So it was home alone for me tonight. Was going to go to the Cinema but there just wasn’t anything on that was pulling me in.

Watched Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton film with Johnny Depp. It was alright. I did expect better from Burton and there were moments of quality in the film, but just not enough. The darkness of Tim Burton’s film making was definitely here, accompanied by Danny Elfman’s distinctive score, and Depp was great, but something was just lacking from it all

Got plenty of reading in too but keep falling asleep so think it might be time to call it a night soon.

Tomorrow is the 2.8 Hours Later zombie run over in Manchester. Can’t wait to take part in that an see exactly what it’s all about. Luckily it should still be quite light whilst the run is on…god only knows where we’ll be forced to go though!

We’re also going to see “World War Z” at the cinema as a prelude to the Zombie run.

Page 171/365 : Despicable Me for not watching it until now

Everyone at work keeps banging on about Despicable Me, the film with the Minions, and with a sequel about to be released, I decided that it was about time I finally watched it…and I absolutely loved it. How have I not seen this before?

It’s got a perfect balance of silliness, comedy and sentimental moments to really drive home a fantastic film.

Now I can go into the office tomorrow (or today because I am writing this late) and actually know what the hell everyone is talking about!

Page 170/365 : Dodgers x2

Bit of a new one in my newly formed Dodger appreciation when the Dodgers vs Yankees game last night was called off, meaning today there was two games in one day.

As of writing, the Dodgers lost 6-4 in the first game. It was a pretty good game but mistakes let the Dodgers down again.

Hopefully they won’t screw up the second game of the day.
