2016.1.3 – Fortnight Film

The fun has begun!

I had wanted to bring Fortnight Film back for a long time but it needed to be the right time and the right place with the right people.

Previously we had run it very badly. We’d had a few people playing, a few suggestions thrown around and a film picked from that small number of films…but this time…we’ve gone big!

I went a little dirtbag to start with and invited every single one of my Facebook friends to the group. Now some couldn’t be added as it was the same group as previous and therefore some people had left and blocked themselves from being re-added but that’s fine.

So this past week we’d been asking people to submit films that they love that they think the world should see. Little gems of films that might not be big budget (or they may be) which you love to tell your close friends about.

We had 32 films submitted and they all got put into a list and into a poll. The poll can be voted on by anyone (we ask that you put your actual name down so we can see there’s no cheating going on), and whichever film tops the poll next Sunday will be our Fortnight Film. Members will then have two weeks in which to source and watch the film before posting their review of the film for all to read.

The poll can be found by Clicking Here

During the two weeks that one film is being watched, another one will be selected ready to take over from the first one two weeks down the line and so on and so forth.

It’s a bit of fun to get people recommending and watching films they wouldn’t necessarily get to watch normally. It’s all about broadening horizons of film.

If you want to get involved, the Facebook group can be found here : https://www.facebook.com/groups/fortnightfilm/

We also have a website which is close to being up and running and can currently be found at : http://fortnightfilm.yolasite.com

Or you can find us on Twitter : @FortnightFilm

2016.1.2 : Ups n Downs

Leeds United. The love of my sporting life. Being a Leeds fan is a little like being married to a bi-polar grizzly bear. One minute it can be all warm and cozy and in a good place, the next it can be clawing away at you until you’re left helpless.

I think the Bipolar grizzly needs to up it’s medication because the bad times are coming too often.

We all know the history of Leeds…we used to be good,  then we were alright then we got good again then it all went dramatically wrong and we’ve been floundering ever since.

So today saw the visit of MK Dons to Elland Road…a team we should be beating…if only all the players realised how to play football. They all looked like they had enjoyed a manic New Years Eve and not yet recovered from it.

Lethargic, sloppy passing and the creating of next to zero chances when it needed were the sum of everything that went wrong today. We went 1-0 down and the heads dropped even more.

It wasn’t until a very late own goal that we got back into the game. We should have pushed on from there though and gone for the win…but it just didn’t happen and as usual we looked more likely to throw it away than to score.

Thoroughly disappointing and demoralising….even though we’ve now gone 7 games unbeaten, it’s not exactly Playoff form is it?

2016.1.1 – Welcome

Hello and welcome to 2016…it’s great to have you here…I’ve been here approximately 23 hours now…and it’s alright actually.

So a new year and a new me…and all that bullshit that gets wrapped up.

Bottom line…I’m going to enjoy 2016 the best I can…and if that involves shifting some weight to feel better…then so be it…if it means having to make some resolutions…it’s happening. Going to kick things off with a No chocolate/sweets/crisps/fizzy pop January…lets see how things go with that…

But back to today…what’s happened?

Up and about early. Spent a good session with Althea whilst Elle went out shopping. We ended up spending about an hour of it playing with musical instruments and generally just making a hell of a lot of noise…and why not?

Actually went all “teenage girl” today too and we watched every Twilight film back to back…yeah…every single one….and we didn’t see Kristen Stewart smile once!

Speaking of films…Fortnight Film is back up and running! It’s mainly being run over on Facebook and can be found by clicking here or you can alternatively Click here to check out the official website…although I need to get it updated as soon as we get the new batch of films up and running. We’re also on Twitter on @FortnightFilm – be sure to check us out and tell all your friends.

Looking forward to the Leeds game tomorrow when MK Dons visit Elland Road. Hopefully a win will keep our unbeaten record intact…we shall see!

Almost there…

My self-imposed hiatus from Facebook and Twitter to avoid all Star Wars spoilers is almost complete.

I watched A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back this weekend in preparation for tomorrow’s viewing of The Force Awakens.

In other news today, took Althea to see Santa twice…this was her reaction to the first one. The second one was pretty much the same. She wasn’t happy…but check out that Santa…I think he’s the actual real one!!!

Shout, shout, let it all out

So we’re onto Day 2 of my Social Media blackout all with the aim of avoiding spoilers for Star Wars.

I’m actually finding it tricky not to just pop into Facebook when I want then it got me thinking…why do I pop into Facebook and refresh the latest posts so often?

It’s basically being nosy. It’s that desire to know what’s going on in the world and with everyone else’s lives. I’ve got friends from all over the world so I get a good view of Australia, Canada and USA from through their eyes.

I think it’s that that I am missing. Maybe I should start curtain twitching and spying on the neighbours to satisfy my own needs.

The other side of things obviously is my own self ego. I’m very much an active poster on Facebook and not being able to shout about things like the Award I won at work on Thursday, or indeed the fact that thanks to Ryan at work I’ve finally watched True Romance for the first ever time and loved it is actually really annoying me.

So just a whole of Saturday to go…

Blackout Day 1

So we’re on with my Social Media blackout. I’m only going on Facebook to sort my football prediction league out, I’ve completely logged out of all Twitter accounts (by all I mean my @FameAsser one and the @ToplessMovies one that I run).

The reason for this was in yesterday’s blog…attempting to avoid anything Star Wars related until I can get to the cinema on Sunday morning and watch the film for myself.

So far, so good. I’ve had random people telling me things like “Yoda is Darth Vader’s pet” and stuff like that…but so far spoiler free.

I have also heard people talking about it as the greatest Star Wars film ever…now THAT is some claim!

Am I missing Social Media? Possibly. I’m finding it more frustrating that not. It’s those convenient times…like nipping to the loo, when it feels like an issue. I find I get quickly bored in my own company but Candy Crush is seeing me through.
In other news today…you are now reading the blog of the official ASDA Finance Team Player Of The Year 2015! Oh HELL YEAH!

Don’t be a Homer!

So there’s a film coming out tonight…just a small continuation of a tale of good vs evil, of family and friends, of Wookies and Robots.

Yup…Finally it’s here.

Star Wars : The Force Awakens

The hype surrounding the blockbuster has been huge. Will Disney sell out and clear ten new Jar-Jar like characters just so they can sell millions in Merchandise, or will the force thrive through into the new generation of films.

There’s been speculation everywhere. Where is Luke Skywalker? Will they kill anyone off? Who will get to say “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” first?

Millions of people will be heading to their cinemas tonight from Midnight and over the next few days to see the film in all it’s cinematic glory…

…I won’t be seeing it until 9:50am on Sunday morning.

That’s a whole 3 days after release.

So how do I avoid spoilers? Obviously I won’t be clicking on any links on Facebook to stories about the film, I won’t be reading Twitter feeds about it. I certainly will be telling every single person I meet over the next 72 hours that “I ain’t seen Star Wars yet…don’t say a word” even if I know they ain’t seen it…they might just know.

Even Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker himself) tweeted earlier that Loose lips sink ships and urged everybody to not be a Homer and give away no spoilers.

“Being a Homer” relates to the scene in The Simpsons where, in a flashback, Homer and Marge have been on a date to see Empire Strikes Back and as they exit the cinema past lines of fans queuing to go in and see it, Homer exclaims  “Wow! Who would have ever guessed Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father?”

So here we go.

  • I have removed Twitter from my iPhone
  • I will only be going on Facebook in the next 24 hours to sort out my Leeds United Football Prediction League and will be looking at nothing on my timeline.
  • I will ignore any message that pops up on Facebook chat from anyone. I have turned notifications off so I won’t even see them.
  • I won’t open any email which may even have the slightest inkling to anything Star Wars related.
  • I will be monitoring text messages by only looking at them glancingly to ensure nothing is hidden in there.

Facebook is going to be quiet without me folks…but rejoice!

Do the decent thing…if you do go see Star Wars at any point, then keep it quiet. Respect others might not have seen it yet and we might all just get through this as friends. 😘👌

Sundown

Took the little lady to Sundown Adventure Land today to see Santa…would she enjoy it…

Set off early doors this morning. I’ve never been to Sundown but I have heard good things about it. Got there about half 10 and started heading around the park. Went on a couple of rides with Althea including a water ride that she loved because Daddy kept getting wet.

Then it came time to see the Big Man himself. Now she’s only seen Santa once before and this could go either way :

Welcome back!

Yesterday, something came back into my life…a true love…something I have been without for way too long.

I embraced it with open arms and will never let it go again…

Welcome back…Cineworld Unlimited Card!

Yup I got rid of it a while back but oh it felt so good to have it back.

The reason? The price.

So the card is normally worth about £202 but it gives you unlimited access to all films at Cineworld and 10% off all concessions.

But even better was the fact that our company perks website sells the year long pass for just £144…that’s just £12 a month…..but wait…there’s more…last month we bought Virgin Broadband through the same perks website…and they gifted me 10,000 “WOWPoints” which equates to £100 on the site….so yesterday I paid just £44 for an entire year of cinema…

So it needed christening right? And what better way than going to Xscape in Castleford to see The Hunger Games : Mockingjay Part 2.

This is film #1312

After a pretty slow Part 1, this instalment had got a lot to fit in it if it wanted to be faithful to the books…and it didn’t disappoint at all.

We find Katniss ready to launch a full scale war on the Capitol, seeking to bring down Snow…but Snow is ready and ladens the whole area with traps to stop the onslaught.

What ensues is a battle of good vs evil where good may not actually be as good as they seem. Can anything be justified in war?

The story twists and turns and ties the whole story up perfectly.

I remember seeing the trailer for the first Hunger Games film and managing to read the books before any of the films were released. The books are fantastic and the films are equally awesome.

Looking forward to being able to watch them all back to back now…anyone know when the Blu Ray is out?
Oh….and I booked tickets for another film next Sunday…any guesses…?
