Page 163/365 : Still ill

Woke up feeling mega weak and aching all over from being sick yesterday. Not good. Phoned up work to let them know I wouldn’t be in and fell back asleep until the afternoon. Finally got up, feeling mega rough.

Watched the rest of the Returned, which was really good, and watched This Is England ’86 on the On Demand on Sky.

Also watched The Apprentice tonight

Still got headache but thankfully everything else has…erm….dried up…!

Chances some food. Had a bacon sandwich and a mug shot and all stated down (and in), so hopefully should be alright from here on in…fingers crossed. Just need to shift this headache and hope I ain’t aching as much tomorrow.

Page 162/365 : Poorly Woollins

Got up this morning feeling a little ropey. Was running to the loo, but headed to work anyway. Only just managed to get to he toilet when I got there. Eventually make it into the office but then felt sick. Ran back to the toilets and spewed!

Came home. Spent the entire day either on, or bent over the toilet bowl. Lovely.

Elle came home too. She had been sick at work and was in a bad state too.

Not a fun day in the Woollin household.

Watched Deadliest Catch and caught up on every episode of Skint though

Page 161/365 : Game Of Thrones Finale…really?

*Contains spoilers*

It was time for the Game Of Thrones (or GoT for the geeks) Season 3 finale tonight and following last week’s Stark-slaughter, it seemed only fair to expect massive things from the finale…

…oh dear!

Everything just felt a little flat. This episode could have easily been an opener for Season 4 and not a big ending like we wanted. The only real story movements were the blacksmith being released by that Geordie guy, which almost led to him being killed, and Blonde Dragon Lady being hailed as “Mother” by all the freed people in a tiny little segment added onto the end of the episode.

Having not read the books, this could be the most pivotal part of the entire story but it all just felt a bit “meh”. Season one ended with the Dragons being born, 2 finished with our first glimpse of a White Walker…and this? Well, it wasn’t a big finish and I was quite disappointed

Also today, someone beat me on the Real Radio competition so the £50k dream is over! Boo!

Lost half a pound at Slimming World. Would’ve been more if I hadn’t had a pizza and BBQ at the weekend…

Leeds United signed Matt Smith today. He’ll come in handy if he brings his sonic screwdriver with him…

Page 160/365 : BBQ chillout

Went to our Louise’s today for a BBQ and chilled out in the garden all day.

My shin is absolutely killing me today. No idea why. When I walk around it gets worse.

And ya know, that’s about it really. Not much more happened. Watched the first episode of America’s Got Talent which was good too.

Page 159/365 : Bon Jovi…well, 3/4 of…

Early start today. Watched Fargo in bed – read my review here

Louise dropped Megan off and we took her to the park for a bit before taking her home.

Headed over to Manchester to the Etihad Stadium to see Bon Jovi.

The show was awesome and the played a lot more of their hits rather than just banging out tune after tune from their latest album, so it was pretty good.

One thing though, was that following a falling out, guitarist Richie Sambora wasn’t with them, and I felt the music suffered a little because of it. The guitar solos just weren’t as good as they were when Richie did them.

But the whole show was awesome and I would definitely go see them again.

Film #1215 : Fargo

20130608-120604.jpg

Fargo has long been one of those film I have wanted to watch but never really had the chance to get around to. But I woke up early this morning and it was on Netflix so I decided to give it a whirl.

Fargo tells the story of Jerry Lundegaard, played by William H Macy, who wants to swindle his own wife and father-in-law out of $1m by staging a Kidnapping. Unfortunately he hires inept kidnapping duo Carl (Steve Buscemi) and Gaear (Peter Stormare) to carry out the job and their bungling ways send everything the wrong way. Frances McDormand is the pregnant Officer Marge Gunderson who becomes dedicated to tracking down the crime from start to finish.

The Coen Brothers have really out together a unique film here. It’s brilliance comes from the dark comedy seeping through William H Macy’s slimy car-salesman turned crook performance, and deep into Steve Buscemi’s script-powered delivery. Stormare’s crook downplays his part and is understated, whilst the greed and psychotic ways bubble away inside him, blowing up now and then with bloody results.

McDormand is great as the sleepy-town officer investigating everything, albeit two steps behind, and her slow-ways fits in with the whole feel of the film. There may be murders going on, but there’s always time to discuss the weather, or postage stamps, and it’s down the the great writing of Ethan & Joel that this works.

Dialogue-heavy but executed to perfection, Fargo is currently listed at #129 in IMDb’s top films, and I am glad I have finally watched it.

Page 158/365 : I did it!

Phew!

This morning the final person this week had a crack at the £50k Friday questions and only scored 7 so I won the £500 for the first week’s prize. It was a good feeling. I was back on the radio as we sat outside Elle’s work, cheering down the phone.

And now the long drawn out fun begins. In three weeks time, the person with the highest score in Yorkshire will e invited to the Real Radio studios for the morning to play off against the four other station’s winners for that final £50k. There will be another three weekly competitions with the winner each week bagging £500…but I just need to hope and prey that no-one gets over 11 points…because if they don’t, then I am in the final! Eek!

Work passed by uneventfully really.

Met up with Elle after work and went to Roundhay for a picnic with her, Amy, Tom and his kids.

Gonna be looking after Megnan during the day tomorrow before heading over to Manchester for the Bon Jovi concert at the Etihad Stadium. Can’t wait.

Page 157/365 : One Down, One to go…

Well this morning on the Breakfast Show on Real Radio, the person who made it through only scored 7, so that’s one down and one to go. If the caller tomorrow doesn’t beat 11, then I win £500 and will be in a decent position for the next three weeks.

I looked into how people have been doing in the other regions and one has a top score of 7, one a top of 8 and another a top score of 9. I couldn’t find Scotland. So that actually puts me in a decent frame of mind that 11 is a good score and it might set me up for the final…I am already nervous about it…god knows what I will be like in two and a bit weeks if no-one in Yorkshire has beaten 11!!!!!!

Tune in to Real Radio Yorkshire tomorrow at 8:15am to see if I can keep hold of the lead and the £500…!

Watched Hannibal tonight as well as last night’s Apprentice.

Also finally managed to sort through all the music on my computer and put it all back onto the iPad. Feel much better now its back on there.

Last night, i also looked into the Morley Literature Festival which will be in Morley in October. It will be around Ye time that Robin Hobb, author of the Farseer Trilogy and other books that are amazing, will be in the UK on a Promotional tour. I messaged Robin through Goodreads as well as dropping a line to the people who organise the Festival. The people from the Festival said they would be in touch. Then I got a message back from Robin Hobb!

Fingers crossed everything adds up and she can do it. Would definitely be at that one!

Page 156/365 : £50k Friday? Gotta be in it to win it!

An interesting start to the day today.

Real Radio are currently running a huge competition called “Fifty Grand Friday” across the entire Real Radio network. The rules are simple. Phone in, get picked at random, answer questions with only “Fact” or “Fiction” for 50 seconds and the person who wins each week wins £500, and the winning person in the entire month goes forward to represent their radio station area in a final showdown for the chance to win £50,000

We’d attempted phoning up Monday and Tuesday to get on, to no avail. Monday’s player scored 5 and Tuesday’s player scored a good score of 7, so it would take some beating.

Elle and I both attempted to get through, after I wasn’t even going to give it a go today in exchange for watching The Deadliest Catch on Sky+ that we recorded last night. Elle talked me out of putting that on in favour of the competition. Both our phones were just getting the engaged tone, but then all of a sudden, Elle’s made it through to a ringing tone. She chucked me the phone…and Real Radio picked up. I was placed on hold until after Jessie J’s “Price Tag”. Then Dixie & Gayle, the breakfast show presenters, came back to the phones and picked a line at random….and it was me!

So all I had to do was answer my questions now…

After the rules were read out so I understood (basically only “Fact” or “Fiction” was accepted and I could only answer after a question had been fully asked), we were ready to go.

And off we flew…with 50 seconds on the clock, the questions were flowing :

  • Fergie is a Member of the Black-eyed peas.
  • Queen Victoria visited Sheffield something or other
  • Hollyoaks is shown on Channel 4
  • Christmas Day will be on a Tuesday this year
  • The original series of CSI was set in Las Vegas
  • In the original Star Trek, Captain Kirk was played by Leonard Nimoy
  • Last Of The Summer Wine was mainly filmed in Castleford
  • Facebook has over 3billion users
  • The Breakfast Show Theme Tune prize is a cup and something else (I can’t remember)
  • Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue dueted on the song Something Stupid
  • …and another four I can’t quite remember.

Anyway…I got 11 right out of the 14 I managed to answer and moved into the lead in the week’s competition. I got the Christmas Day one wrong, and the Facebook users is just over 1billion, and I had said fact…and the STUPID one I got wrong was the Last Of The Summer Wine one…I knew the answer…but I said Fact! ARGH! Idiot!!!

But, I am in the lead…and if no-one manages to beat 11 tomorrow or Friday, I will win £500…and then if no-one actually manages to beat 11 before June 27th, I will move onto the £50k Friday final to be in with a chance of winning the big money.

Now…I am a huge believer in Fate.

About a year ago, Elle and I auditioned for a TV show called “My Man Can” to be hosted by Mark Wright and Melanie Sykes. We did really well in the audition, and we were shortlisted, but never made it onto the final show, which we were gutted about. But here is the weird thing…the show has still not been shown on TV. And this morning, when I downloaded The Sun to my iPad, the story was in it that ITV had decided never to show the programme. It’s quite funny really…I reckon we would have made good TV with it 😉

But the best thing is…the prize money on that…..£50,000….so is it fate that just an hour later we got through to a competition to possibly win the exact same prize?

Keep your fingers crossed people.

Page 155/365 : Career On The Up?

Another fun day at work. Following on from yesterday’s management win at the “how long can you suck a sweet” game, we had another today using a Cadbury’s Chocolate Eclair. It was a close run contest. It came down to Emma and I at the end. Then Emma lost hers and I still had this left :

20130604-215027.jpg

Just call me champion. And that clearly means I now have management credentials and the only way is up to the top….another victory like that and I’ll be MD before the month is out!

Also attempted the Fizz Wizz + Diet Coke challenge and passed with flying colours and an intact head (it didn’t explode).

Still reeling in shock from last night’s Game Of Thrones too. Paula in work hadn’t seen it so it was hell at work not being able to talk about it.

After work picked up a bottle of this :

20130604-215348.jpg

Yes, that’s Dr Pete…no Dr Pepper! It tasted good but my Gas Bottle is running low so there wasn’t much fizz! Need a new one.

Watched first three episodes of Season 5 of CSI. It’s good to be back.
