Page 273/365 : Deadline? What deadline?

Work was interesting. It was month end an half year end which is always good fun. When I release the invoices there’s a strict 5pm cut off…except everyone else seems to think that doesn’t exist. As such, £168k worth of invoices and another £150 worth of credit notes were not sent out in time due to the fact that some people down South seem to think that deadlines don’t exist for them…

…and the best bit? I basically tell them the invoicing has missed. Their boss emails me to have a go and tell me that the girls in the office down there are “extremely busy and will be working over!” Well that’s all well and good, but if there’s a 5pm deadline to get things invoiced, it doesn’t make two fucks whether people are working late or not. Invoicing has to be sent before 5pm!

Tuesday is gonna be interesting!

Page 272/365 : Onto the Post-Season

The Dodgers lost tonight, but in a way, it didn’t matter as they were already in the post-season picture since way back, remember them jumping in the pool and what have ya?

Unfortunately though, their form throughout September has been very unpredictable. They’ve had days where no-one could hit, and others where it was Run after Run after Run.

This inconsistency has to stop now. The post-season is here and a best of five series vs Atlanta Braves is the first step towards the World Series crown. Two games in ATL, followed by two games at Dodger Stadium, followed by the final game back in ATL. Of course, those last two games may not be needed if someone dominates.

I would’ve been happier playing the Cardinals, but it wasn’t to be.

My first season as a Dodgers fan has certainly had it’s ups and downs. I only started watching Baseball after Elle bought me tickets for whilst we were on Honeymoon in LA. Dodgers lost 12-2 that night to the Rockies, but it made me fall in love with the game. I just wish I could be in LA for more games…especial lib the Post-Season.

Puig, the young Rookie has the potential I be the MVP for sure, if Uribe finds his Home Run bat then all will be good too. And as long as the pitching staff stay on course all should go well.

Go Blue!

Page 271/365 : Making it more interesting

Was told today that my Blog ain’t that interesting. Still it’s mad how I keep getting the visits.

Jeff Daniels tweeted this earlier from the set of the new Dumb & Dumber film to be called “Dumb & Dumber To” (sic) :

If they have nailed a decent script, which they should have done, then this will be awesome.

Also saw a trailer tonight, after being directed to it by Pagey, for the new TV show “The Michael J Fox Show” where Fox plays a newsreader with Parkinson’s Disease. The show looks really funny and it’s good to see that Michael J Fox is still working hard and making people laugh.

Check out the trailer yourself : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2338232/

Watched loads of Breaking Bad season 3 today. Should finish it off tomorrow.

Page 270/365 : Another week

Another working week is over and it got me thinking about Christmas and how it’s not too far away now. Also that we’ll know it’s here as soon as we hear “holidays are coming…holidays are coming!”

Flew through another two episodes of Breaking Bad. We’re going to try to get through at least the whole of seasons three and four this weekend. That’s another 24 episodes….easy! Haha.

Got to avoid social media though as much as possible because the finale of the final season is on in America on Sunday. That means I might end up spoiling it all for myself. No spoilers please people!

iOS 7 got its first update. Oddly enough it was 7.0.2 – not sure where 7.0.1 went, but hey hum. This massive update had a change to the number lock screen as well as Greek Language support for it. Wow! Massive!

In other news, it was revealed that the Royal Christening will be on October 23rd…that’s a Wednesday. We all wait with baited breath to find out whether it’s going to be a day off work, seeing as though 98% of people will only care about that!

Page 269/365 : Back on the Bad

Back watching Breaking Bad tonight. Watched a few episodes from the end of season 2. Hoping to fly through them now.

Also watched the second episode of Bates Motel which was really good.

Not much else to report.

Tried the Reese’s Peanut Butter cereal this morning it was really nice!

Lawlor found some secret GTA hidden map on the internet. Looking forward to completing the game and then having a crack at that

Page 268/365 : Peanut Butter & Curry

No….before you ask, I’ve not gone all mental and started eating PB and curry at the same time. Nope indeedy.

At lunch I went down to Morley to bank a cheque and popped into the new sweet shop that’s opened up. They sell all olde-world sweets in jars. Proper old school with scales etc.

But the also sell American goodies. Oh yes. I picked up a box of these bad boys :

Peanut butter cereal. They’re probably rank…but we’ll see.

Also picked up a Reese’s Pumpkin for Elle and a Baaaaaaaby Ruth for me, Sloth’s favourite :

After work, met up with a bunch I old work colleagues who were made redundant earlier in the year and headed to Nawaab’s for a curry. Absolutely loved it. Always do there though. It’s a good curry!

Leeds played Newcastle in the cup tonight and lost 2-0. I won’t dignify it with a “oh we can concentrate on the league now” because that’s just a shitty way of saying “fuck it”. Any loss is bad. Whether to Premier League opponent’s or otherwise!

Dodgers won again last night against the Giants. Apparently the returning Brian Wilson got a bit of boos from the Giants. He probably expected that though! Can’t wait for the post-season to start!

Page 267/365 : GTA again

Racked up some more GTA time tonight and this morning…broke into an army base and stole a military helicopter…standard!

Leeds’ match on Boxing Day against Blackpool, if not already bad enough that they’re letting us play there on Boxing Day anyway, has been moved to a 5:15pm kickoff! Oh dear! There’s going to be a lot of Leeds fans loving that…extra drinking time!

Looking forward to a Curry after work tomorrow at Nawaabs with the old ICM crew (thats a workplace…not a gang by the way…)

Page 266/365 : Dexter : The Finale

OK…if you haven’t seen the finale of Dexter season 8, the final episode EVER of the show, then do not read this blog entry. It contains massively huge spoilers from the finale and it will ruin things for you.

So here’s some space just to make sure it has sunken in that you don’t want to be reading on of you don’t want it spoiling…………

Ok

So here we are and the Season finale of Dexter has arrived and been watched. The last ever episode, following the final exploits of everyone’s favourite serial killer.

Over the eight seasons of Dexter, there’s been many ups and downs. There’s been a couple of seasons that just weren’t up to the mark of the others, but then some absolutely stunning ones too. For me, Season 4 with John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer is by far the greatest.

So everything comes to an end…and what an ending it was…what a SHIT ending!

I have never been as disappointed with a season finale as I was with this one single episode. In the last few, everything has been building up. Vogel was killed by her son, Saxon, Debs took a bullet to the guy, the Personal Investigator was hot on the trail of Hannah, and Dexter was torn between his old life and his new.

So on we go with the finale. Debs has surgery and is seemingly OK. Dexter causes a bomb scare at the airport to stop the PI getting to Hannah. He then ships Hannah and Harrison off to Argentina. Saxon attempts to kill Debs but is intercepted by Miami Metro.

And then it all just starts to go a little wrong and the decent writing of the last 8 years goes straight out of the window.

Debs takes a turn for the worse and ends up in a coma after a stroke from a blood clot. Fair enough.

Dexter manages to get himself alone with Saxon (a guy who has just shot his sister) in the middle of a crowded police station. He then taunts Saxon into attacking him before killing him with a pen. When questioned, it’s just dismissed as self-defence and Dexter is sent on his way. It was at this point that everything just started to feel a little weak. There’s no way he’s be let go…

Then with a storm approaching, Dexter goes to the hospital and turns Debs’ machine off…without anyone realising. Then in the madness of a hospital evacuation thanks to the storm, Dexter manages to take his now-dead sister out of the hospital and onto his boat. He drives off into the storm before dumping Debs over the side and heading off into the storm.

We then see a wrecked boat and everyone thinking Dex is dead (no-one even mentions that Harrison is obviously missing too).

But oh, what’s this? A lumberjack yard and Dexter shows up? What the fuck?

No big send off, no reuniting with Hannah and his son, he just goes on with his life and had escaped to Oregon. Is he still a killer? Has anything changed?

Why the fuck did it end like that? Absolutely no closure. In fact, the whole season seemed disjointed by the end. Why bring Misuka’s daughter into it only for her to not really offer anything to the story for example?

For me, the best ending would have been Dexter turning off the machine then getting arrested, or Dexter being killed, but the ending we were treated to just seemed a massive cop out of the highest order.

Poor doesn’t quite say it enough.

The writers let us down with the final twist of the knife!

This is how I would have ended it :

Dexter goes to hospital and stands over Debs. As he does, Angel is watching the videos of Saxon’s killings. One video is different. Saxon sat talking to the camera, telling the police EVERYTHING about Dexter with files from his mum etc. Angel realised Dexter has done everything over the years. Dexter says something like “my final kill” and turns Debs’ machine off. He walks outside and Angel, Misuka, Quinn etc are there and they put him in a police car.

Dammit!

Page 265/365 : 100 to go

Just 100 days of 2013 left…time flies!

Stayed up until 4am last night. Had fallen out if synch with my Omeprazole for my reflux and it meant my chest was hurting in bed.

So I put the Dodgers game on. It was a decent 4-0 win for the Dodgers over the Padres.

Watched plenty of Season 2 of Breaking Bad. It’s an odd one. It’s a very slow burner but I keep getting told to stick with it. It had been quite quiet but then the last two episodes we watched were amazing and by the looks of people’s ratings on imdb, it looks like it just keeps getting better from here-on-in. Love it.

Page 264/365 : Let There Be Meat!

And so, we finally made it.

After teasing ourselves for months and months since it opened, we finally got around to going to Red’s True Barbecue in Leeds.

It promised a lot. We’d only ever heard good reviews from people who had been and now it was time to go there ourselves.

As it was my 32nd birthday yesterday, it was the only excuse we needed.

We got there around quarter past 6 and was told we had a wait until 8:45 for a table so we put out names down and headed off for a drink.

We went back and got seated around half 8…and we were underway.

Having been salivating over the menu for the last week, I already knew what I wanted from the Good Book…

20130921-220038.jpg

First up for me was the wings in Hot sauce….and DAMN was it hot. Wow. Absolutely loved them. Cooked to perfection and such an amazing sauce accompanying. Elle had the Nachos which she loved too.

There was absolutely zero waiting for food as the joy of Red’s is that everything has already been cooking for a day already. Unbelievable!

And then…the mains…

Elle went for this :

20130921-220424.jpg

And I had the Pit Burger. Which was a double burger, along with pulled pork, bacon and cheese. Here’s both of them in all their glory :

20130921-220557.jpg

And I am going to lay it all out on the line right now……that Pit Burger is quite simply THE nicest burger I have ever eaten in my life!

I even had some of Elle’s Donut burger, which sounds weird and odd…and it is…but it just worked so well! Lovely.

Everything was topped off by authentic American Root Beer. At the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed, even though it didn’t feel like the portions were of stuff-able size.

We will be back here sometime in the future.

Just go and try it yourself!
