Page 351/365 : Wrappin’

It’s that time of year when presents have to be wrapped ready to be handed over on Christmas morning…unfortunately, I am abysmal a wrapping presents…seriously I hate it. I rip the paper, I get bored, I end up leaving open gaps which I had to repair with patchwork wrapping.

Luckily Elle loves it….I hope…so she does it all. Bless her!

I still have to wrap her presents though….I might just stick em all into a box and wrap that! Easy peasy!

One year I wrapped my presents in Newspaper! Now…this may seem like a Scrooge-like way to do it, but some thought went into it! I found a Page 3 with the word “Dad” in one of the headlines, I found a “Mum” headline and some “Sister” headlines. Hey, who says I don’t put some thought into these things.

What’s annoying about wrapping is no-one appreciates it anyway. You might as well just put everything in ASDA carrier bags and hand it over….ooh, now there’s an idea…!

Page 350/365 : Show Me The Telly

Today was the day that Show Me The Telly was shown on ITV1.

Back in October we recorded the show over in Manchester and today was it’s first showing.

Steve, Lawlor and myself took on Chris Tarrant, Denise Van Outen and Andi Peters in a battle of TV knowledge in the hope of winning £3k.

The show itself was fun, and the whole experience of being in the studios and having a laugh with the celebs was brilliant. Richard Bacon was great, if not a little manic. Chris Tarrant was a gentleman and genuinely funny, Denise Van Outen was lovely and fun, and Andi Peters was a genuinely lovely bloke too. It was all a little odd being on a show with people we had grown up watching on TV every week but when it came to banter in the studio, we gave as good as we got.

Unfortunately, the end result wasn’t the one we wanted. We just literally didn’t have enough time to finish the last round. But the experience of it all was very special and it felt good introducing Lawlor and Steve to the world of TV gameshows.

I’ll continue the search for another Gameshow I can attempt to win on.

Page 349/365 : Homeward-bound

Woke up nice and early, fresh from the after effects of the Naga from last night…I knew I’d pay the price for having the hottest one in the shop!

Got ready and headed out into the middle of Llanwrst to see Noa taking part at Church. It was a nice service and Noa was funny, grassing his Mum up to the Rector for telling him to stay quiet.

We then all met up at The Eagle Hotel for a carvery which was spot on…tonnes of meat!!!

Headed back to Leeds about 5. The journey was a little less windy than the inward one yesterday, thankfully. We did see the remains of the fallen tree though.

It has been a really lovely weekend down in Wales, seeing Elle’s grandma and aunties. Noa & Steffan were on fine form as always and all were very welcoming. Next time though, I need a milkshake at The Milk Bar…I’ve heard lots of good things about it…but never had one!

Sam won X Factor. No-one will know who she is next year.

Headed to Wales this lunchtime to see Elle’s family for the weekend.

Fairly decent two hour drive over…apart from the road into Llanwrst being blocked by a fallen tree in the HUGE winds that were blowing hard.

Went to Elle’s grans for a bit before heading to her auntie’s. Nipped out and had a couple of pints down the local and a game of pool before grabbing some more beers for the evening.

The local pub – Tafarn Newydd (that’s the New Inn), was serving Bah Humbug on draft! Well…it would be rude not to!

Nipped out later for a curry and had another cheeky pint and a game of darts. I beat Tom 2-1 in Legs. Couple of good checkouts for me in the first and third leg, second leg was a double-one slog that Tom finally won.

Had a Naga. It’s Lawlor’s fault for getting me onto the hottest curry in the shop! It was lovely though.

Work went OK.

Went down to Real Radio in the morning and donated a tenner to Dixie & Gayle’s All Day Xmas Party day. They were on for 13 hours to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. It was a cracking cause. Met Jon Mitchell the weatherman from Calendar too! Told out Louise about the Big Reunion people being down there at 1 and she nipped down and met 911, B*witched, 5ive etc down at the studio.

Went out for a curry tonight for Emma’s birthday. Went to Aagrah in Chapel Allerton. It was a cracking curry. I had my newly found favourite Chicken Achar. Loved it.

Page 346/365 : First presents

Christmas has officially started (after the last official one which was the Coca Cola Advert, and all the other official ones).

It was Secret Santa day at work. The tension was building. Who would have who? Would anyone get socks? Would anyone get anything work-related?

The presents were handed out by Ro Claus. We ripped into them. I had LOADS in my gift bag. I opened them to find Ro had been and attacked the American Sweet Shop in Leeds. I got a right haul.

There’s a Moustache Ice Cube tray, root beer x2, Baby Ruth x2, Reese’s Snowman & JR’s Hot BBQ sauce. Cracking.

Everyone loved their presents, which was a welcoming start to the festive season.

Watched Apollo 13 tonight for no other reason than it was on the Sky+ planner and we need to start clearing things off for Christmas. I don’t think 13 episodes of Columbo are helping!

Page 345/365 : 11/12/13

Check out today’s date. Yup. It’s the 11th December 2013 which means that written numerically it reads 11/12/13. It’s the last time this will happen in our lifetime as the next consecutive number date will be 1st February 2103…a date not many of us will see!

But lots of confusion was caused when I pointed this out on Twitter today and received the following messages back :

20131211-233404.jpg

And this brought about the whole debate around how the English and the Americans write their dates. Typically, dating back centuries, the English way of speaking tended to say the 11th of December, meaning the dates would be written 11/12, however in America, they would typically say December the 11th, which lead to them adopting the 12/11 format. The Americans use this format in everything……..except when it suits. The biggest celebrated day of the year in America is…Fourth Of July….!

Other exceptions to the American’s rule is when they join the Mexicans in celebrating Cinqo de Mayo….5th of May….see? When it suits!

Oooh, don’t forget to watch/record “Show Me The Telly” on Friday. It could be our show…if not it’s on Monday!

Page 344/365 : Home Alone

No…I’m not Home Alone but we finally watched the film tonight. And a few things occurred to me.

If this kind of thing happened in real life nowadays, the burglars would probably take the McAllisters to court and sue them for violent conduct. Firstly, they didn’t even enter the house and were attacked with a gun followed by having their hands scarred for life with a hot burner.

Also, as pointed out by Andy Haines on Facebook, it’s highly likely that Kevin would have been taken into care following the whole incident and never would have had the chance to get on a wrong plane for Home Alone 2 (in which he wasn’t actually at home at all)!

Morals are completely wrong in this film…I do love it though.

Page 343/365 : Rest

Was off work today with these stupid stomach cramps. Misjudged the times of open surgery (thought it went on until 11) so missed it and couldn’t get an appointment until Wednesday. I’ll just go to Open Surgery in the morning.

Sat in tonnes of different positions attempting to get comfy.

Watched the rest of Paranormal Activity 3 as well as PA4 and another horror called Cassadega. Watched a Columbo too.

Should be back in work tomorrow. The pain is not as intense after eating although it is still there. Will still go to the docs first thing!

Page 342/365 : Painful belly & finals

Urgh. In pain with my stomach all day. It just keeps churning over. Not good. Appetite at a minimum too. Eurgh!

Watched Paranormal Activity 2 and part of 3. Kian won the I’m A Celebrity finale and the X Factor semi finale was a good one.

Eurgh! Pain!
