063/2014 : Pancake overload!

That time of year again when we all stuff our faces with batter-based products stuffed with everything from chocolate to peanut butter to strawberries to cream.

Pancake day.

A religious ceremony to use up all the contents of the cupboard before Lent which starts tomorrow. Nowadays, it’s just pancake day. Ask people the meaning and I bet less than 50% know.

But I ain’t gonna bible-bash, basically because I don’t even go to church so it’s very blaspheme of me to be saying anything in the first place. But still.

My big new system went live at work today and was well received. People liked it and were using it. Feels good to have completed my first project and release it into the world. I feel like a proud parent dropping a kid off for their first day of school, unaware as to whether at home time the teacher will be saying the kid was a little shit or whether he was good as gold.

Watched WWE Raw which was pretty good. They are really building everything. Up really well in the run up into Mania. Cannot wait for that now.

DiCaprio snubbed again. Matthew McConaughey picked up the best actor gong. Wolf Of Wall Street won nothing. Madness!

061/2014 : Slumdog & Slumming

Slummed about all day. Played catchup on loads of TV. Also watched Slumdog Millionaire which Elle has never seen.

Watched more Dodgers Spring Training. I am still watching so the game isn’t over yet. 1-0 to the Dodgers vs Padres so far. Can’t wait for the season to start proper.

Looking forward to work tomorrow. Sending my first project out into the world for people to use. Hopefully it won’t break and everyone will love the system! Gotta present it first to all the team leaders tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Oscars tonight. I wish I had the ability to stay up and watch. Why do they do them on a Sunday every year??? Pointless recording it too. There’s no escaping the results. Hoping DiCaprio picks up Best Actor for Wolf Of Wall Street, although I get the feeling that 12 Years A Slave will be the big winner.

060/2014 : Leonardo Overload

Decided this morning to watch The Great Gatsby. Neither of us had seen it so it seemed like a good idea. I wasn’t a massive fan of it though. Visually it was great and striking but the story was a bit naff and weak which really took away a lot of focus from the film.

Later on we watched The Wolf Of Wall Street. Elle hadn’t seen it. It was really good to watch again. I get the feeling I could watch that over and over.

Time certainly flew at work today. Had a one-to-one for an hour in the morning and the entire afternoon was taken up at the YBM meeting. Literally felt like I had zero time to do anything.

Ended up having a fairly early night. Knackered.

058/2014 : Back To Baseball

The Dodgers are back! Last night the first Spring Training game was played…but I missed it so it was tonight’ game that I watched.

Greinke pulled something after just two pitches and had to be pulled from the game. Withrow then got battered by the Diamondbacks before being pulled when Dodgers were 2-0 down. But the Dodgers went back on the offence.

Final result 4-3 to the Dodgers. Hit that Randy Newman “I Love LA”!

057/2014 : Networking

Got the WWE network up and running properly, even through the iPad, which is quality.

Without being too crude, it is good to see that Benoit’s matches are still intact. Before anyone starts, I don’t condone what he did. We all know what he did in what seems to be a weekend of rage, but the fact remains that he was one of the best in-ring performers ever.

Apparently Wrestlemania 17 is one of the most watched events on the Network. Tonnes of people say that was their favourite. I think it was the selling out of Stone Cold which drew people in. It is certainly one of my favourites of all time.

056/2014 : The Raw after the Chamber

As I talked about yesterday, I really enjoyed the Elimination Chamber PPV but the Raw the following night has something a little special to greet you all with. Yes…Hulk Hogan is back.

He opened the show to a fantastic reception an announced his part in Mania as host.

But the Raw fun didn’t stop there. Cena vs the Wyatts was well and truly set up.

Daniel Bryan called out HHH for a one-on-one match at Mania after beating Kane.

Batista vs Orton is still dragging and the fans don’t care…

…but then Brock Lesnar was in-ring moaning about his open contract and his match at Mania…then the lights went out and out came The Undertaker! Yes! He’s back and they set up a match at Mania by Taker putting Brock through a table. That should be a good one and should be 22-0…but ya never know with WWE!

055/2014 : Validation Chamber

Four week validation at work. Went really well, which is cracking. No issues there at all.

**Warning WWE Elimination Chamber Spoilers **

Elimination Chamber was on last night. Didn’t watch it live as I would have been knackered today. One of the lads at work came bounding over to me in the canteen whilst having breakfast an I basically had to shout “don’t tell me!”

Watched it after work and was quite impressed, but the complete standout match was the Wyatt family vs The Shield. Both have been dominant forces in the company but The Wyatt Family came out on top. It was an absolutely stunning match.

The main event was a little predictable but there were a few important bits in there which set up some Mania matches. Bray Wyatt attacked John Cena and Kane cost Daniel Bryan the match. But the worst thing was that Orton retained. Joy! Orton vs Batista!

One good thing…tomorrow, Hulk Hogan will be on Raw! Can’t wait!

054/2014 : Lego & Monuments

Had a double cinema run today. Went over to Xscape and saw the Lego Movie and Monument Men.

First up, The Lego Movie. I thought it was a very good film, even if it seemed to lack a certain level of humour I expected from it. They played on the fact that everything was built out of Lego in a really good way. The characters were really well placed and played well by the voice actors, but I just wanted more comedy from it. I likened the film to Wreck It Ralph, which was probably a mistake on my part as I loved that film. All in all it worked really well but there weren’t many laughs coming from the auditorium.

Next up I watched Monument Men. It’s the “based on a true story” tale of men going into World War Two to recover stolen art. The cast was brilliant, with George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett all putting in decent performances but again I expected more from a film with that calibre of actors behind it. Maybe it was the source material in the real story that meant it lacked, but I felt like it was one I was glad I had watched but one I won’t be rushing to watch again.
