Page 36/365 : Oops

Completely forgot to write this last night…oops!

Picked Derek up from his grandmas because he’s been feeling poorly and throwing up…poor little man.

Worked on the new spreadsheet system at work. It’s slowly developing into a beast now

Fairly ordinary day at work. Implemented a new system which went down well. Good times.

Lawlor organised coaches for getting to Leeds for this Friday and the Stag Do weekend so that’s all good too.

My new friend at the Rio in Vegas has booked our tickets for us for Penn & Teller. Looking forward to that.

Went to Slimming World and lost 5lb as well as picking up the Slimmer Of The Month for January. Woooohoooooo! To be fair, I feel it was slightly cheating as I had put on so much in December so I needed to do it properly. It’s paying off though! Not sure how it will go this weekend with Lawlor being up….mmmmmm Pizzzzzzzzaaaaaaa!

Page 34/365 : Back in the pool

Megan was cute this morning getting up early and deciding she needed to get into bed with Auntie and Uncle.

Watched a couple of films (Rio and Yogi Bear) before heading out. Dropped Elle and Meggie Moo off at Munchkins in Morley for a kids party before heading down to the John Charles Centre for a swim to avenge yesterday’s non-swim swim.

It was the 50m pool and I did 38 lengths in the 58 minutes I was in the pool. I was taking it steady. The pool was pretty crowded so I had to do a few lengths slower whilst waiting to overtake someone. Enjoyed it though and will be keeping up to it.

Caught up on some more Prison Break tonight.

Ordered some new trainers as shorts online for holiday.

Review : Film #1,201 – Yogi Bear

Image

When I was younger I was never a massive Yogi Bear fan, but knew the basics. Yogi lives in the park and steals pic-a-nics all the time.

So I approached the film kinds fresh. It wasn’t the greatest. I like what they did with the story, a simple wood-under-threat storyline and naturally Yogi can do something about it. The voice acting by Dan Aykroyd & Justin Timberlake was spot on however. But apart from that, the whole story lacked a certain pizzazz. It’s very much aimed at the child audience and whilst kids will love the antics, you can’t help feel that older fans of the original series might be disappointed and feel a little underwhelmed by this big screen adaptation.

Film #1,200 – Rio

????????????????

I am a fan of animated films, being a big kid at heart. The soon-to-be-released Wreck It Ralph is a modern favourite (I saw on a freebie preview…click here to see my review). Only yesterday we re-watched Toy Story 3 for the first time since watching it for the first time at the cinema…and yes…I cried again…!

So looking after our niece, it was a great excuse to watch an animated film I had been looking forward to since it was in the cinema and never had chance to catch. Rio is the story of Blu, an exotic brazilian bird who has never learnt how to fly and having being captured at a young age, has never lived the wild life he should have done.

When Blu is taken back to Brazil as part of some research, he’s promply kidnapped and must attempt to find his way back to his owner with the help of new found friends.

The film is great for kids, but unfortunately lacks some of the adult-appeal that many of its predecessors had, missing out on a flurry of in-jokes that the older generation can latch onto. Aside from the main character, and the samba-loving pair, the rest of the characters lack a certain appeal. Where Toy Story has distinctive laughs aimed at each of the characteristics of each different toy, the problem with birds is that they can tend to all be the same and as such, the film falls a bit flat.

Sure, it’s cute and quirky, but I can’t see this as being one I would return to anytime soon.

Page 33/365 : Another loss, another chance…and annoying kids!

Went up to Morley Leisure Center this morning for a swim whilst Elle went to the Zumba class that was on there. Oh the joys of swimming during a “General Swimming” session. I was jumped on my kids twice, then had another couple of kids literally thrown at me by their Dads. Then as I was swimming lengths, two girls (I say girls but they were easily in their twenties) had decided that even though some of us were swimming lengths, it would be better for them two to swim widths…and they managed to time it perfectly so that every time I was up in the Deep end, I was having to stop to let them past.

I managed 20 lengths in fifteen minutes and had definitely had enough by then so got out and waited…I think I will stick to the Adult only sessions from now on.

Went to the Leeds game this afternoon. Was doing a bit of running around so said I would meet James down at the ground. The first half was fairly evenly matched and it was 0-0 at halftime…and then it happened again…I got picked out to go onto the pitch and play the halftime game…that’s twice in one season now. So down I went…ready to avenge my disastrous miss of last time when I skied it straight over the bar.

The ball was on the spot…I ran up, conscious that I was wearing shoes and not trainers…and I hit the ball sweetly…but instead of the ball hitting the back of the net (the rules are that its got to go in without touching the floor) the ball smashed the crossbar and came back out…much to my shame and plenty of hilarity from those around me.

The second half started off OK and we had a few chances until Sam Byram uncharacteristically scuffed a clearance straight to one of the Cardiff players who hit a shot which was then followed up by Campbell, who had only been on the pitch a few minutes, and he scored the only goal of the game.

The performance by the Leeds team wasn’t actually that bad today and I have seen us play a lot worse and win. I think a draw would have been a very fair result but it wasnt to be, and that’s the kind of luck you get when you are top of the league, like Cardiff are. We still haven’t beaten them since 1984 which is an insane statistic to continue.

Went to Morley to pick Elle up after the football and also pick up Megan. We’re looking after her tomorrow and taking her to a party. She just watched Toy Story on TV before it was time for bed.

Page 32/365 : Numbers

Argh….numbering the days gets harder now thanks to the fact we’re in February and the number doesn’t just correspond to the date.

Had a productive one at work, setting up a new reporting system to the managers…I think the technical term is brown-nosing.

Exchanged a load of emails with the ticket man at the Rio hotel in Vegas. I am waiting for Penn & Teller tickets to go on sale so I can sort out decent ones for our Honeymoon. He’s going to reserve the best ones for us…and he best thing is we won’t need to pay for them until about a week before! Good times.

Page 31/364 : Deadline Day

Well, for once, Transfer deadline day comes around ad we actually have something to report as a Leeds fan. Usually it’s just a case of sitting and watching Harry Redknapp doing interviews through his car window and refreshing the Live transfer news screen every four seconds to see : [insert player name] has been spotted by a friend/friend’s mum/friend’s dog, entering [insert stadium name] for talks. Literally none of these stories ever come to fruition!

So Becchio moves on to our Premier League parent club Norwich who now have more Leeds United players in their team that Leeds United have! As part of the deal, Steve Morison makes his way to Elland Road. He should be a decent replacement…he just can’t play on Saturday as he’s injured…! I would like to think we could start up a chant that included the words “More Reasons To Score With Morison” but I don’t think it’ll catch on…

The next player in was another Steve…this time Stephen Warnock, who is absolutely no relation to his Dad Neil Warnock…imagine it he was, it would be like when I used to get into the Cross Keys Sunday League team just because my dad was the manager! I did score a cracking goal one time though….

And finally…in comes Steve Habibou….haha, I joke of course. In comes loaner Mouhamadou Habib Habibou. What a cracking name that is! WACCOE will have a field day coming up with chants for him!

Oh…and Paul Rachubka stays out on loan until the end of the season…why is he even still at the club?

To sum up, I am disappointed at losing Becchio, but if the newbies can make an impact, in a couple of weeks it’ll be a fickle case of “Becchio who?”

Page 30/365 : Hospital

Today, Dad had to go into hospital. He was suffering some kind of stomach pains and the doctor didn’t know what it was. They think its some kind of Intestine infection but will know better after the X-rays and the scans. He’s staying in overnight. He should be OK.

In Leeds United news, apparently it’s a done deal that Becchio will be going to Norwich and in exchange we’ll be getting Morisson and some cash (probably £2.50 BFH). Also, tickets for Man City away revealed at £20 which ain’t a bad price although the tickets are on a loyalty scheme. The match will be on Sunday 17th Feb and on ESbastardPN.

Elle cooked a cracking Keema Curry tonight whilst we almost got to the end of Season 3 of Prison Break.

Month End at work tomorrow…always good fun……NOT! Everything is always busier and down to the last minute. We’ll see what tomorrow has to offer.

Keep getting a stupid little circle on my phone when at work. I basically lose all signal. Grrrrrrrrr. Everything just grinds to a halt…not good with Appysnap in full swing!
