Page 50/365 : New Title

*Contains WWE Spoilers* Watched WWE Raw tonight. A brand new title was unveiled which was given straight to The Rock after retaining on Sunday night. It looks pretty cool :

Dolph Ziggler was denied a cash-in AGAIN on Raw. One day…one day!

Quite tired today and no idea why. Started watching Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes but the version I had dodnt have the subtitles when the apes were in conversation so I had to turn it off to encode subtitles into it…modern technology eh?

Think one of our Geocaches has been “Muggled”. Someone reported it wasn’t there. Will have to go and check sometime soon! Rather annoying if its been taken!

Page 49/365 : Elimination

*Spoiler Warning*

Watched Elimination Chamber today and thoroughly enjoyed what I thought was one of the best PPVs of the past year.

Del Rio maintained the title in a decent match against the Big Show, despite completely messing up the ending to the match.

Shamus, Iohn Cena and Ryback vs The Shield was absolutely fantastic. It was a frantic match with tonnes of big moments and a good win for The Shield who needed to win.

Then came the Elimination Chamber and one of the most predictable in years. The match itself was awesome with plenty of big spots as there always is in Chamber matches, but after Del Rio had retained earlier in the night, there was only ever going to be one winner. Jack Swagger’s new angel is that he and his crony Zeb Coulter hate anything non-American. So it makes sense that he’ll be facing the Mexican Del Rio at Mania.

And then we had CM Punk Vs The Rock in a match which completely blew their Royal Rumble match out of the water. What a battle with tonnes of late kickouts and bumping refs (although it was Mike Chioda and he does like a good bump). We were even treated I a non-breaking announcers table!

In the end The Rock retained to set up a repeat of last year’s Mania against Cena.

Cracking PPV. Roll on Mania!

Page 48/365 : Manchester Mauling

Ah well, the cup dream is over for another year as we now out of the FA Cup to Manchester City 4-0. We deserves to lose to be fair and were on the back foot for most of the game. I am just wondering now how long Warnock has in charge…!

Plenty of wedding stuff done today. Bought a label printer which Elle played with whilst the football was on and started making the labels for the favours. Also put together the CDs with the wedding ceremony songs on…songs like Chico Time, the theme from Superman and Back To The Future were attempted to be put in there but in the end I plumped for the normal tracks….wonder if I can get Marching On Together in there somewhere 😉

Started the new jigsaw today. The White House. Which is crazy because the hardest bit isn’t the house…it’s the amount of Sky that’s involved!

Page 47/365 : Film day!

Well today turned into a huge film day.

Elle was going to the hairdressers first thing so I dropped her of in Morley before heading over to Cineworld Wakefield.

First film of the day was A Good Day To Die Hard : Click here to read my review

Then I went straight into watching I Give It A Year : Click here to read my review

Then I came back home, met up with Elle who was now heading our to Jess’ so I dropped her off there before coming home to watch Real Steel : Click here to read my review

After that I started working on finishing my jigsaw whilst watching the last half of Mamma Mia and then the last half of I Know What You Did Last Summer on TV before picking Elle up.

I finally completed the New York jigsaw…even though there was a bloody piece missing…although I swear it was there about half an hour previous! See if you can spot the missing piece :

Film Review – #1,207 : Real Steel

It’s Rocky meets Robot wars.

In the future when real boxing has been outlawed, robots are put to battle in a scrap (geddit?) to the death. Massive amounts of money are wagered on bouts and having a good bot can bring money and fame with it…

But Hugh Jackman’s down-on-his-luck ex professional boxer Charlie Kenton doesn’t have the best, in fact he has less than the worst and just cannot manage to get his feet of the ground. He owes debts to everyone and his only way of making money by entering these Robot Boxing competitions is hindered by the fact he just cannot afford a decent robot to win in any of he backwater carnival bouts he enters.

And then up pops Max (Dakota Goyo), Charlie’s son from his precious marriage, who, following the death of his mother ends up being left with Charlie through the summer… And it’s a chance meeting with a cranky, twisted, crooked piece of metal that saves Max’s life that spawns the birth of Atom, Charlie and Max’s underdog fighter…and back to the arena we go.

I absolutely adored this film, even though it was very predictable. It is literally the bog standard Underdog story, battling against the odds for glory and all the key elements are there, even with Rocky-esque training montages and inspirational comeback music in the fights.

It’s a film with heart too as we see Charlie and mac bond like they had never been able to previously. It’s genuinely funny in places and the special effects of the robots are brilliant.

I would however have liked to have seen more of an evil build up to the Big Bad Boss robot that is top of the heap, in order to build his reputation more in anticipation of the big final fight. A bit of evil tactics here, or a penchant for terrorising kids outside the arena, that kind of thing.

But when the end of the film comes I don’t think you will be disappointed. It was a film I wasn’t sure about seeing to start with but one I am very glad I did watch.

Real Steel…Real good!

Film Review – #1,206 – I Give It A Year

Dysfunctional is definitely a word I would use to describe this film.

“I Give It A Year” follows the trials and tribulations of a young couple who, after marrying shortly after meeting, struggle through married life for the first year of their new lives. Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne are the couple in question but as their lives take a turn away from each other and into the arms of ex-girlfriends (Anna Faris) and business colleagues (Simon Baker) everything turns to turmoil with hilarious results.

Awkward is another word I would use to describe this film. Much of the comedy stems from the wrong thing being said at the wrong time in front of the wrong people. Steven Merchant’s best friend role is one he plays to perfection as it’s not too much of a stretch from his normal self as Ricky Gervais’ right-hand man.

Spall is great fun in the film and has to carry a lot of the comedy himself, having a very quirky relationship with his Ex, where Byrne is a more serious person and the situations she finds herself in lend themselves more to the “should she/shouldn’t she” question.

It’s not the funniest film ever made, but it’s well worth a chuckle and I can’t help think that the film would have benefited more from a full cinema, rather than a 7-person screening (yes I was the odd one out). Comedy films tend to work a lot better when there’s more people watching.

That being said, the first third of the film and the last third definitely have moments which are very funny and “Laugh Out Loud” but the middle section does seem to focus more on which way the characters will turn than the comedy aspect.

Worth a watch, by maybe a DVD viewing in a year or so rather than making a special trip to see on the big screen.

Film Review : #1,205 – A Good Day To Die Hard

John McClane is back! And this time he’s On Vacation.

Following reading a lot of reviews that dubbed Die Hard 5 as boring and subtitling it “A Bad Day To Die Hard” I wasn’t expecting much from the fifth instalment in a series of films which I thought peaked with the third and fell away with an average fourth film.

But I was pleasantly surprised by Willis’ latest outing in the white vest.

The story centres around McClane’s son, Jack, who is working as an undercover CIA agent who is aiming to stop all out carnage between two men. Naturally John is looking for his son and stumbles across him at the most inconvenient of times, slotting himself slap bang into the middle of the action.

Bruce has still got it. Sure, he’s older, but the craziness still exists. There’s plenty of comedy to be had mainly revolving around the disfunctionality of McClane’s family life, but the film really comes to life during its action sequences which are as good, if not better than they have ever been.

One early sequence involving a huge chase through the streets of Russia is insane and ends awesomely, and TW climax of the film is much more explosive and fun than anything in Die Hard 4.0.

Forget the horrific reviews the critics have given this, go see the film and judge for yourself. Is it the best of the series? No. But it is entertaining and will raise a few chuckles as well as a lot of “Woah!” moments.

Yippie Ki-Yay Mother Russia!

Page 46/365 : Return Of The Rick

After what seems like a looooooong wait, The Walking Dead is back on Fox tonight. I absolutely love it. What an awesome show. The gore levels are HUGE in this new series, which is always good.

Last series was left with The Governor losing his eye and Rick’s rag-tag band of mercenaries moving in on Woodbury, the colony set up, blocked out from the outside world and the Walkers.

It’s certainly good to be back.

Bid for a Baseball catcher’s mitt online…what with subscribing to ESPN too, this might turn into a habit. Haha

One week to go until the Stag Do now too! Looking forward to Nottingham shenanigans!

Page 45/364 : Happy Hallmark Day

Here we are again. Valentines Day 2013. Not to be confused with the slightly more fun March 14th, which everyone knows as Steak & Blowjob day…and if you didn’t know that, you do now and I expect you all to indulge…!

Did presents and Elle got me tickets to go see the LA Dodgers when we’re over there on Honeymoon. That should be really good fun. The atmosphere is meant to be great! Would love to catch a ball!!!

I also got a Superman toiletries bag, some Superman undies and some Root Beer sweets. It all kinda put my presents to Elle a bit to shame, with the microwaveable slippers and heart Keyring amongst other things.

In WWE news, John Cena has been shagging a porn star! Fair play.

Watched the trailer for the new Monsters Inc film “Monsters University” and it looks great. Also read a few reviews of the new Die Hard film that’s out today and apparently it’s a bag of shite…but I’ll still go see to witness it myself.

Got back into playing Final Fantasy 7 again tonight after hooking up the Xbox controller to the computer. Nicely does it! Good old Sephiroth is back to terrorise me! The big-sworded wazzock!

Page 44/365 : Quiet Flight

Fairly quiet one today. Snow came down quite a bit so Elle didn’t go to Zumba like she was meant to do.

Watched Flight – Click here to check out my awesome review

Looking forward to Valentines Day tomorrow. Oooooh wonder what presents I’ll get…!
