014/2014 : Big Mac In A Bowl

Getting into this cooking lark now.

Decided tonight to rustle up a meal which, I’ll be perfectly honest, I didn’t think would work.

I’d seen the recipe ages ago for “Big Mac In A Bowl” but never attempted it. But tonight was the night.

Here’s the recipe :

Big Mac in a bowl (serves 4)

500g extra lean minced beef
1 large onion (chopped)
4 tbsp extra light mayonnaise
4 tbsp tomato ketchup
8 gherkins (chopped) – Optional
iceberg lettuce (shredded)
8 slices dairylea light cheese slices – or any light cheese slices
salt and pepper

Place the minced beef and onion in a large pan and fry over a medium heat until beef is browned and the onions are soft, Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Mix the ketchup with the mayonnaise to make a burger sauce.

Layer up the dish by placing a handful of shredded lettuce in the bottom of the bowl then top with some of the minced beef mixture, Drizzle on some of the sauce and sprinkle on the chopped gherkins and top with two slices of the cheese.

It’s absolutely BLOODY brilliant! It tastes lovely and it literally like just having a Big Mac but without the bread and without the heart attack (allegedly). We served it with Slimming World Chips.

Here’s the finished product :

013/2014 : 2nd week of cooking

Had to fend off plenty of stick from a Sheffield Wednesday fan at work today. Grrrrrr.

Jumped on the scales this morning and had lost another 3lb which is good. That’s 10lb off since new year now.

Had to cook for myself tonight. I did really well. Did pork chops, chips and beans. I am getting good at this and had no help at all…oh wait…

012/2014 : Wetting

It was the wetting of a friends’ baby’s head today. All the lads got together and went on part of the real ale trail. All the girls met up and went to Gomersal Park Hotel for a meal.

We met up at Leeds train station for a pint before jumping on the train to Dewsbury Station for more in the in-station bar there.

Stuart and I bought a joint ticket so we had to stick together like husband and wife…

Soon it was time to head onto the next station…but not before I posed with this :

We headed onto Mirfield to have a few in a bar just outside the station. There I found a quality mirror :

The local artwork left a little to be desired though :

After freezing our tits off on the station at Mirfield we headed onto Huddersfield for more beers.

Throughout the day I mixed up drinking halves with pints. I manage to tick off another ten ales I haven’t drunk before. Result!

011/2014 : Feeling Six

So Leeds played Sheffield Wednesday today at Hillsborough.

We lost.

But we didn’t just lose…we were a annihilated. For the first time since 1959 we lost 6-0. I didn’t even realise until the second half that the game was on TV.

The two new signings were put into the team and the formation changed…big mistake. It just didn’t gel and Wednesday put in a performance that they will be recording to DVD overnight. It will be a best seller in their club store tomorrow.

One good thing to come out of it was that at least it stopped us thinking about the Rochdale match from the other day…

Brian McDermott has said there is a meeting with the players tomorrow at the training ground. That won’t be a very happy meeting I wouldn’t think!

010/2014 : Football or Football?

Couple of signings tied up for Leeds in the last couple of days. Firstly Cameron Stewart from Hull. He’s not prolific, but he could fit in well. Secondly Jimmy Kebe from Crystal Palace, who is a much better prospect and hopefully will work well in the team.

Another “signing” was our Partnership with the San Francisco 49ers. The American Football team will send over a batch of delegates to help show Leeds United how the club should be run, helping with advice in marketing, merchandising etc. Ultimately, it’s a deal to make the club better and should work fine.

Shame they didn’t tie in with the Dodgers though!

009/2014 : WWE Network

It’s been talked about for years, but finally the WWE Network has been given it’s launch details.

20140109-200254.jpg

From February 24th in America, the network will launch with a Raw post-show. The network will be 24/7 WWE, WCW & ECW. All 12 PPVs, including Wrestlemania will be shown on it, but Raw & Smackdown will not.

The price will be $9.99 a month and you will be tied into a 6-month contract.

Personally, I think this is a cracking offer and I can’t wait for it to become available over here in the UK, which is touted as being towards the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015.

Also, apparently EVERY single previous PPV will be available to watch on Demand, which is huge too.

The whole thing is being run by the people behind MLB.tv, which in the last year I have found to be invaluable to getting me into baseball, so I am hopeful that the content will be top notch. The rumour has it that it will be available direct on Xbox One eventually. Another tick in the right direction.

I will be keeping a close eye on WWE Network news to make sure I know of any updates as soon as they happen!

008/2014 : Parcels

Firstly I want to send our heartfelt condolences to a good friend of ours who tragically lost his Dad today. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I won’t say who it is here as it’s not my place to do so, but he knows we’re there for him. It’s times like this when you take a look at your own lives and reflect on life and loves and pray for the best for everyone.

Stay strong fella x

In other news today, I had two parcels to pick up from the Post Office. I went to get them this morning…and amazingly they had lost one of them. The one they did have though was this little bad boy :

I went back after work to see if they had the second parcel, and miraculously they had found it…but it was already late anyway…it was my Die Hard a Christmas Jumper. I wore it for a laugh anyway…now I will be putting it away until December…! Nightmare!

007/2014 : Old School Raw

WWE Raw went Old School again last night. It’s a show they do once a year which allows them to wheel out the likes of Rowdy Roddy Piper, Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Sgt Slaughter etc etc for one night and put them into random comedy moments which have little or no bearing on anything storyline related at all.

One thing it does make you think about is the good old days of WWE. But then it makes you think even more about when the best days were. And it’s a whole era between then and now. It was the days of The Rock and Stone Cold, Edge & Christian doing poses for the camera, the Hardyz jumping from the top of huge ladders…and who can forget “D-Von…get the tables!”

If the WWE want to hark back to good times, go back to the era most fans talk about…the Attitude Era. DX ripping things up left right and center and causing mayhem, the whole Monday Night Wars era when things happened that had people talking.

Unfortunately, I missed a lot of the attitude era, only coming back to the WWE in 2000 but I saw some fantastic things after that…

…but as seemingly the whole world goes PG and WWE are frightened to upset anyone and everyone just in case Linda McMahon doesn’t get the votes she needs for whatever political campaign is up next, can the WWE keep it’s viewership? Probably.

Unfortunately though, it seems like we are dependant upon 2 month visits from Brock Lesnar, or a few months of The Rock to keep interest peaked. Between those times we have CM Punk and Daniel Bryan being the best in the business whilst a lot of mediocre mid-card doesn’t keep us entertained. I find myself fast-forwarding a lot of Raw’s lower card matches, and I can’t even remember the last time I watched Smackdown…it never used to be like that!

But I will continue to watch because it’s a product I love and respect, and let’s face it, the alternative is TNA or Eastenders!

006/2014 : All grown up

I cooked my own tea tonight.

This is quite an achievement for me.

And the culinary masterpiece I rustled up…? Sausages, chips and beans.

But before the “oh you were meant to be being good” crew come out to play, the sausages were low fat ones and the chips were slimming world chips and the beans were…well…beans.

I could get used to that……NOT!

005/2014 : The chores of chords

Lazy lazy day today.

Watched last Monday’s WWE Raw where in the end Daniel Bryan joined The Wyatt Family.

Watched loads more episodes of Sons Of Anarchy on Netflix too as well as getting a good few games of FIFA 14 in.

Also dabbled on the guitar again attempting to learn chords. Damn they’re tricky. It’s not so much a case of remembering them as it is a case of switching between them quickly enough to string tunes together. I guess it will be practice practice practice and they will come eventually. I did manage a very slow and broken up version of “Amazing Grace” though.
