044/2014 : Early Valentines

As we’re usually running around like mentalists on Thursday and Friday mornings, we did our Valentines presents at night tonight.

Elle got me this cracking. Mousemat to take to work :

as well as a tour of the Black Sheep Brewery! Wooooohoooooo!

I bought Elle tickets to go see The Bodyguard on stage in the West End as well as dinner beforehand. I felt like I had to make up for last year when I got her microwaveable slippers and she got me tickets to go see the LA Dodgers as part of our honeymoon.

043/2014 : Hush!

Elle’s Valentine’s gift ordered and sorted. Hehe. Shhhhh!

Also, bought tickets tonight to a Wrestlemania party in Leeds for Wrestlemania night. Lawlor and Euan will be coming up for that. Should be a too night. Just gotta sort out some kind of fancy dress now though…does Dave-A-Mania come back out…?

Really need to get to the cinema to see Robocop. It just doesn’t for in with decent times yet though. Might have to be at the weekend now.

042/2014 : Predictor gains

Leeds away to Brighton tonight. It was always going to be a boring one.

On my Prediction League I was originally going for a 1-1 with McCormack first goal…but at the last minute I changed it to 1-0 to Brighton with Ulloa first goal. Unluckily for Leeds, it went in and catapulted me from 9th to 4th and into the money positions. Just need to keep this up now!

041/2014 : Playing catchup

After work had my normal three hour+ of nothingness to do after work. Elle doesn’t finish until 8 so I wasted a tonne of time on Max in the Xbox.

Need to get to the cinema sometime soon. Ain’t been for ages and there’s a few films out that I fancy.

040/2014 : Frozen Bronze Goddess

Managed to catch some of the Winter Olympics today (I can forgive the opening ceremony….just).

I caught the snowboarding. 

Snowboarding is a brand new sport to the winter Olympics. It’s a sport that’s been around for a while but was finally accepted into the Olympics this time around. 

And now a tiny little bit of history…Britain has NEVER won a single medal on the snow…in anything….ever! In fact, I could probably name only one British person to have ever competed on the snow….Eddie The Eagle…but today, Jenny Jones became a name that will forever be known with the winter Olympics. 

She managed to pull in a Bronze Medal with a cracking 87.25 2nd run…just 0.25 in front of fourth place…but enough for the podium.

She had been in first place at one point…and the commentary teams were getting extremely excited, but was pegged back by another couple of excellent runs. 

It did come down to waiting for the last few to fail though…and even though it was in the name of bad sportsmanship, we were cheering, along with a lot of others (including the commentary team) when the last remaining competitors fell one by one.

It was a good day for British sport. It takes me back to 2012 and the Summer Olympics and the moments when we had never been as proud to be British as we were when all the medals were being won by our athletes.

039/2014 : Windy Football

Early kickoff this morning for Yeovil vs Leeds on Sky. (Not as early as it was for those who actually went to the game though obviously). It was always going to be a windy day, but in the first half, when Paddy Kenny was struggling to get the ball out of his own penalty area, it was clear that we were going to spend the entire first half under pressure…and we were. We went 1-0 down after 32 mins after a corner was sent in and met by the head of a Yeovil player.

Byram gave a penalty away near the end of the first half but the penalty went straight over the bar fortunately.

In he second half we pushed and used the wind. Almost straight after kickoff, the Yeovil keeper’s clearance fell to McCormack after being caught up in the wind. He moved into a better position then smashed one into the top corner. Beautiful!

Our second goal, and the match winner came from an unlikely source. We got a free kick miles down the pitch, still inside Yeovil’s half. Warnock took it. He lifted a ball high into the box…the wind caught it and lifted it over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Two wins out of two now…maybe it’s all going right for once…

038/2014 : Welcomed!

Different day at work today. It was the day of the Beat Welcome. Basically a whole day of induction training. They told us all about the company and where they had come from, from their beginnings right through to today and the five year plan for the future.

It was all really informative. I thought it would be really boring but it wasn’t at all.

It was also really interactive, which was good. At one point we had to visit seven different stations. At one of them they were playing a quiz…and my competitive head went on…and I won, naturally. The answer to the catchphrase on the screen that I got was “3D Printer”. My prize for winning? This little beauty that had been made on their 3D Printer :

I loved the whole day and it certainly feels like I am better prepared for my continued career now.

037/2014 : Turn the table

Used the microwave at work today as I had taken my own lunch into work…but the microwave really confused me.

It had no turntable in it.

What kind of microwave has no revolving turntable? Seriously? I wasn’t sure whether the whole thing would blow up or not (which wouldn’t have gone down too well really) but it heated fine…then it got me thinking…what’s the point of a turntable? Is it because normal microwaves only blast in from one direction?

If you know the answer to this…please let me know…been doing my head in.

036/2014 : Max : Curse Of The Brotherhood

Downloaded a game earlier in the week and not had chance to play it until tonight. It’s a Microsoft Studios game called Max : Curse Of The Brotherhood. The story is simple, you are Max, and after cruelly sending you little brother away to be taken by some weird monsters, you follow him into the other world to try to get him back. In your way are monsters and traps, but after meeting a strange old woman, she turns your magic marker pen into a powerful weapon.

You can use your marker pen to create and draw landscapes in the available areas in order to successfully navigate your way around the world, evading big brutish soldiers and spikey-backed unjumpable snails.

It is a beautiful game and one I cannot recommend highly enough.

035/2014 : Cough, Cough, Splutter

Eurgh.

Feeling rough today. My bad throat and cough has flamed up hugely and I kept having fits of coughing in the office. Not nice in a big open plan. I am sure it will have been getting on people’s nerves but not much I could do about it. Dosed up on cough syrup and paracetamol to try to shift it.

Still feeling. Rough tonight.

Had a lovely tea though from M&S.

Hope I feel better tomorrow.
